Xbox.com adds friends management

New function on official Xbox Web site allows gamers to make, break online friendships away from their consoles.

Microsoft's integration of its consoles and the Web took another step today, with the announcement of friends management on My Xbox, the online community based around the Xbox and Xbox 360. The addition is "only a portion of what we've got up our sleeves," says My Xbox lead program manager Clinton Fowler.

Beginning today, whether gamers wish to add a player they rumbled with in Halo 2 the night before to their friends list or kick off some noob that was clinging on to their roster of buddies, they won't have to wait until they fire up their Xboxes or Xbox 360s. Friend requests can now be sent, accepted, or declined over the Internet through Xbox.com, and existing friends can be removed from lists.

"I can't tell you how long we've wanted to do this feature, and it's finally here," Clinton beamed in a post on Xbox.com. "You don't have to look at those pending friend requests anymore, and you also don't have to wait 'til you get to the console to send a friend request to that guy or gal in the forums!"

For more information or to sign up for a free My Xbox account, head over to Xbox.com.

cool its gonna be like myspace, but instead of the word space, it xbox, and instead of really popular people, its people you wont ever hear about until they make some program or device that you use and they make billions for

Not a bad idea by Microsoft. Actually an excellent idea if you want the truth. But will that make an additional fee to the Xbox Live or will it stay the same. But Microsoft is starting to start something. Who knows they may beat Sony, but nobody knows about the Revolution.

"Great idea, but I would like to be able to communicate with the people on my friends list from the xbox.com website - when their logged onto the 360 and I'm not. Some people are just hard to catch ", OPOLLO.

I totally agree with you OPOLLO. Some of my good friends online have different schedules than I and it's hard to get in touch with them. MS is doing a great job catering to gamers and are continuing to keep ALL gamers involved in their ideas and improvements. Sony definately has an uphill battle ahead of them.

Great idea, but what I really wanted was a little thing were you could type a little about that person, so when they say hi, you know how you met them, and what you played together.

I guess they are now making the site just like the console. But I don't see how you are going to suddenly fall out with someone over Xbox.com rather than actually on your console on Xbox live.

"gatsby": no matter how good a game is, you'll never admit that they are! You have for instace Oblivion wich is the highest rated game EVER, in gamespot and many other sites and you still say there's no good games for the X360, so it's useless - you should quit video-gaming....

They say it as if it is revolutionary.
That should have been there all along. It isn't a step up, but simply getting around to something they should have had in place long ago. (that is what microsoft does best!)

whoopdee doo. How about making a couple of GOOD games? OK how about just making one good game for the 360? No? Okay, how about making a couple of good xbox games, backwards compatible. You're not going to do that either? What are you doing?
