GameSpot TV shows in the works

Voom HD Networks to feature a pair of GameSpot-produced series on new Gameplay HD gaming channel.

Gamers who loathe leaving the couch to get the latest GameSpot news and reviews will soon have another option. Voom HD Networks has enlisted GameSpot to provide some of its original programming for its recently started 24/7 high-definition gaming channel, Gameplay HD.

GameSpot will produce two series for the network, GameSpotting, a half-hour-long recap of news, reviews, and previews, and CinemAddicts, an hour-long look at game stories told through cutscenes and selected gameplay clips from popular games. The rest of the network's programming consists of original series and specials, news and information programs, and tournaments (including April's Blizzard Worldwide Invitational Tournament from Seoul, Korea, and the inaugural Guild Wars World Championship from Taipei, Taiwan).

Gameplay HD launched February 1 and can now be found on DISH Networks' channel 9485.

Agree with others that G4TV sucks big time. Hope GameSpot and other competition kill G4TV off. Also hope GameSpot expands to other markets like DirectTV.

its good, but G4 has more then video games(fast lane series is pretty good). But if I see that beetle explode in the microwave one more time, im going to be sick.

Why not go on an existing game channel? And why go to an HD ony, dish network only station. I mean how big could their market even be?

i kinda wished that my local cable company would get this channel then added to X-play which is probably the best show for games ever created, i just wish they made a new episode every day i swear i feel like they havent come out with a new episode in ages.

G4 is terrible...This past Saturday's line up...6 hours of Brainiac, followed by Fastlane, then back to back episodes of Street Fury, then two episodes of Star Trek:TNG, then 2 hours of the Man Show, then a repeat of the earlier Fastlane, then another 2 Star Trek:TNG, then an hour of Brainiac, and finally another 2 episodes of Street Fury before they went off the air...I sewar the best thing about that channel is that sometimes I get the infomercial of Girls Gone Wild!

Here's a hint, G4. Just because Patrick Stewart does voice overs for video games, doesn;t mean that we want to see Star Trek all day!!!

Gamespot helping in creating "couch potatoes".......it doesn't hurt to get off the couch every once in awhile....not everyone own's a DISH.You guys would give G4 a little competition if you also put this service on cable.

They shoulda moved it to cable. That woulda made the G4 audience move to the Gamespot TV. The die-hard gamers miss the old days of TechTV. I think Gamespot TV woulda made a great impact.

    COOL.
But how many episodes can U make for that Cinemaddict. and will the GS people appear on those things or will it be Voice over type.

As part of that deal, there should be a clause that the shows will be available on this website (maybe for the paid user). So, hopefully Gamespot has the publishing rights to this one.

Great! I'm getting sooooo tired of X-play's stupid jokes and antics and G4 is slowly showing less and less video games shows and instead giving most of the airtime to shows like Star Trek, Fastlane and Braniac.. Thank heavens. Maybe these guys can show G4 what a real video game channel IS!

    Weak, I dont own satellite.

  • Oilers99

    Posted Mar 27, 2006 10:21 pm PT

This is interesting news, but Gamespot is deluding itself if it expects a significant portion of its audience to watch, unless it hosts these shows on the main site.

  • PiMacleod_basic

    Posted Mar 27, 2006 10:11 pm PT

I wouldn't ever touch satellite. I have a friend who has satellite, and every time there's a touch of bad weather, there goes the picture. Order a PPV? Better hope there's no rain! We've had this happen before on several occasions too.

When are they gonna learn? ('they' referring to 'corporate in general') Even though the 'Dish' may be cheaper, there's no quality within that cable doesn't do with more security. You don't gotta worry about some rain or high winds ruining your viewing pleasure.

  • UnnDunn

Voom (the owners of the Gameplay HD channel on which GameSpot's shows will be aired) is owned by (or otherwise related to) Cablevision, so if it's going to be on cable, it'll be on Cablevision first.

HAving said that, Dish Network isn't bad at all. Satellite TV is so much better than Cable in so many ways. 25 million households (that's 1/4 of the US TV population) can't be wrong.

Cinematech is by far the biggest waste of space and time in all of television history and now Gamespot is giving it a go with CinemAddicts. No thanks. Gamespotting, however, sounds like it should be good.

Speaking of G4, what the hell happened to them. Used to be the best channel on tv, now it just sucks. The only thing on there i watch is x-play, AOTS and sometimes the Man Show. Everything else can please just go away.

Heh, back in the days of ZDTV, there was a show called "GameSpot TV", hosted by none other than Adam Sessler. After a series of mergers and takeovers, the show first changed its name to "Extended Play" before becoming "X-Play". Well, looks like GameSpot is back on the scene...
