More Kingdom Hearts on the way

Tetsuya Nomura confirms he already has new ideas for the next installment; more games from series producer to be unveiled at E3 and TGS.

Though Kingdom Hearts II has just about wrapped up its journey onto North American shelves, it won't be the end of the action role-playing series. A day after Square Enix held its Kingdom Hearts II launch party in Los Angeles, producer Tetsuya Nomura took some time to talk about the future of the franchise with Famitsu.com. There, he revealed that he already has some new ideas for the series.

Nomura is thinking of a new installation that won't be a numbered sequel or something that takes place between two games the way that Chain of Memories (Game Boy Advance) did. If fans of the series find that a bit confusing, they have nothing to worry about, because they're not alone.

"It's difficult to explain it. I'm thinking about how to talk about it [without giving things away], which means that there will be some twists to it. Up until now, the series followed along a [straight] time line, going from Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. But the idea I have right now doesn't follow that flow," Nomura told Famitsu.com. "However, as long as it inherits the Kingdom Hearts title, it needs to have some connection [to previous installments] in terms of storyline, so it won't be too distant from the other titles. In any case, this is still at a conceptual phase, where I'm thinking about what I want to do."

Famitsu.com also asked Nomura whether the next installment's story will take place after the ending in Kingdom Hearts II. However, Nomura only smiled, neither confirming nor denying it.

Nomura is currently at work on multiple titles, and he revealed that there will be more announcements at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo and Tokyo Game Show. Square Enix is planning a big event for the E3 announcement in particular, and the company will be holding a surprise ceremony during the expo.

Kingdom Hearts, rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older, is scheduled to be available in stores tomorrow for $49.99 on the PlayStation 2. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage or come back later this week for a full review.

    So the next kingdom hearts will take place either before KH1 + 2 + memories, or it will take place on the exact same time-line. sounds like fun, but I don't think this is coming out for a looooong time ( I think i read somewhere 2011?). Hopefully it will be as enjoyable and adventurous as KH1 with the cool battle system from KH2

    KH3 i hope its for Wii , PS2 and PS3. That would be neat if its on Nintendo Wii

    psp has much better graphics than ds. ds has too big of pixels and less. now end of story.

    Nomura should make it for the PSP not the DS because the DS will most likely be 2D. PSP is better.

    Nomura has stated he is interested in a kh psp, so that would rock and kh3 will probably appear on the ps3. For the KH psp info check this out- http://i3.tinypic.com/wbyt04.jpg

    Also I forgot which gaming magazine said it but they mentioned that SE is working on KH psp and don't be suprised to see a Pixar film involved.

    I believe there will be a KH3, (and I also have the Electronic Monthly Magazine for the KH2 Previews) but I also found out there will be a movie as well.

    Also i agree with EvilHeartLink. It still needs to deal with teenagers. But i don't think their journey is over just yet anyway.

    Well I finished Kingdom Hearts 2 and saw the secret ending...

    On my personal opinion, I hope that it isn't based off that ending movie. I don't want this series to turn into a LOTR(Lord of the Rings) style game, which then secret ending kind of says to me. It shows 3 people with keyblades in a "desert" area with all these other keyblades. I don't want it to be some game YEARS after Kingdom Hearts 2, since I don't know how they could do that...I'm just going to hope that, if it isn't based off the same characters in these games (Which would make me kinda disappointed), that it's not some war battlers from the future. If this next game is a desert kind of war type game where the main characters are those people that look like adults in the secret ending, not only am I not going to get this next game, the slight excitement that replaced the sadness for the ending of the series is going to come back. I want to play a Kingdom Hearts not a War of the Keyblades.

    This isn't directed at you (of course), but you hit a sore spot.......

    I'm going to go with the spin off theory in this case. While FFVII would make a killing, I could give a rat's ..... about that game. And before you fn boys start crying about how crazy and stupid I am, realize something. For most of you, FFVII was the first one you ever played. Many of you don't really know about the first 6 (not the PS remakes, the nes/snes games), when RPG's were hard to find, and good ones even harder. Some of you don't even know about the two versions of FFIV (sad), or the preview pics Square released for the non-existent FF game for the N64 (before Sony gave them a blank check). Do the rest of "old farts" a favor: Play I through VI, then give me call on why FFVII is the best FF ever. And I don't mean the GBA or DS versions, the original, untranslated or Emulated (I know it's illegal, but they are in English) games. Oh, BTW, I don't mean just play, I mean totally complete. I challenged a frien of mine to do that, and he replays FFVI hard version and FFVI at least twice a year now.

    Hope this is a next gen title. I was sorely dissapointed this one didn't get delayed for the PS3 launch... My PS2 continues to collect dust, and I have no interest in reviving it... I'll picky KH2 up anyway, but probably won't play it until the PS3 is out. Besides, I'm knee deep in Oblivion right now anyway..

    KH2 is going to rock out hard. I wonder if Nomura will put the next installment on the PS3. If he does i really hope he keeps the cartoonish style to it. That's what gives that game so much popularity. He is one of two of my favorite Developers. Tetsuya Nomura and David Jaffe are the gaming Gods.

    Frankly a ff7 remake would be overkill with the whole ff8 thing, it would also undermine the original and then strip the orignal off of the glory thats everyone has labelled it with. although sometimes over-done. besides whats wrong with most people in here? cant you fanboys stomach something new? then people wonder why there are gamers who moan about no new titles being out there. oh gee, a new REMAKE of final fantasy. oh gee a REMAKE of mario 64 (10 year old game on the ds), oh jesus holy christ, a remake of so and so game on a handheld. wow, then on the pc, double wow, then on a future gadget, triple wow. NOT. besides if they do transition from sony to microsoft, which i think ios highly unlikely, it would be a boon. i am sick of sony and square enix bumping their tiny japanese genetalia together for ages.

    seriously, do a remake of FFVI already. Yes, SIX, not seven. Six deserves it, with 14 characters, all acting as their own 'main' character.

    unfortunately, there's so many cloud & sephiroth lovers out there, that it'll never happen. ::sigh:: poor Kefka -- he's never going to get to poison the waters of the current generation's brains.

    SE will be having a ceremony about their transition from Sony exclusivity to 360 exclusivity....this ones easy to see... Sorry if you don't like this but it is true!

    It would be really cool if the surprise was a Chrono sequel. However, it will probably be some generic FF VII remake or spinoff. I've already played that game. I really wish they would spend the money on something original instead of a game that everyone else has already played but with better graphics.

    I'm betting KH3 it will be about Mickey and it's story structure will be similar to Lord of the Rings: The third Age. That is to say you will play through one and two from a different point of view. I know everyone would love to play Sepheroth and learn learn how FF characters ended up in the Disneverse.

    I for one really thought after seeing the ending I thought there would have to be a new one some day.Can't wait to see a new KH game on the PS3.

    I think it looks more like a Prequel more then a sequel.

    I also hope some day we can see on the PSP Riku's path.It would be real neat to play as him.I think a game about Riku would really be awesome.

    FFVII remake, isnt need now buddy, their is to much of thi so called FFVII now there milking it like ___k..DoC sucked like hell(i played it.) but anyway..Its great..It rare for to say this, but Im going to like the English VA more then the Japanese VA(Japanese hade great VA^^) but for KH English would be bettter..

    btw..its not KHIII, it would be something like CoM,(a title not a number)) and he said we may only see it in the middle of the PS3 life..I more and likey to be the last, he said he dosnt want it to go on like FF..it wants it to have a ending...
