Sony confirms God of War sequel

The saying "violence begets more violence" rang true today, as Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that God of War II is coming to the PlayStation 2. The news confirmed widespread speculation that a sequel to David Jaffe's award-winning violent game is in the works, and was timed to coincide with Phil Harrison's keynote speech at the 2006 Game Developers Conference, where a trailer was shown to the public for the first time.

In the game, grumpy antihero Kratos takes his seat on Olympus as the new god of war. Not content to sip on the nectar of the gods, he embarks on a journey across Earth to "end his continued torment" by attempting the seemingly impossible task of changing his destiny. Along the way, he'll skewer new mythical beasts such as the Cyclops and the Flying Gryphon with his trusty blades.

God of War II is currently scheduled for release in Q1 2007.

    I'm so glad that it's coming on the PS2. I think the PS3 will be just to expensive for me . Anyway, for those who regret that GOW2 it's not on PS3, no worries. This is a super cool game, and i'm sure that there will be a GOW3, of course on PS3. In fact, i'm sure that they begun working on GOW2, even before GOW was released . This game is a gold mine, and it will bring Sony lots of money.

    Cool I LOVED GoW now this on PS2 SWEET!!..Even though ill probably play this on my PS3 if i get 1 before the game release

    It took three years to develop the last God of War (or so they say) but this new game's engine is already built. It's a lot easier to tweak an engine and add new content than it is to build a game from the ground up. We also don't know when development on this sequel began.

    And it's amazing how much ignorant people are willing to pretend they know, and spout on these forums. Who's bought a production version of the PS3? Who's touched or even seen one in person? Still, somehow, suddenly everybody's an expert on everything from the price to which TV you'll need in order to use it. Hush up everybody, your ignorance is appalling.

    kratos is back huh!! but dont you think theyre going to rush it?? cuz the last god of war took 3 years while the sequel will only take a year?? any comment...even with the 360 and the ps3 the ps2 will still have power

    one thing i can`t understand is why everyone wants it on ps3. sure the graphic would be better but now we donīt need to buy a new consol for estimadet price at 500$.

    My Response: I have played the first one for about 10 minutes....i think its pretty cool that they are bringing a sequal to the PS2 platform before they hit PS3 conjunctions.

    I can't freakin wait for that game to come out, his armour looks awsome and it's sweet how he keeps the blades. I hope you get to find new armour or can upgrade it along the way as well as finding new weapons and upgrading them and be able to gain levels and compete online. I also hope this game is a little longer than the first one.

    Dear jolly1976. Stop being so gealous man. Enjoying your 360? Great! Then what the heck are you doing here?

    YOu can buy a TV with HDMI input for under $400. Which maybe too much for your pocket but definetly not out of reach for the average person that was looking into buying a TV.

    It's great that you can play your XBOX on all sorts of TVs... it's sad there isn't muchgood stuff to play on it.

    PS2 still have plenty of life until the better titles appear on PS3 (which I'm unlikely to get until MGS4 comes out. Looks like it will still be my PS2 and the Rev awhile until Ps3 comes out. *goes back to play FFXII*...

    Of course they had to make a sequel. Think about it, as great as this game was a sequel had to happen. I can't wait. I just hope it makes it to more then just the playstation console.

    I'm glad it's being done on the PlayStation 2. This means that not only will the game be cheaper and out sooner, it also means that it'll reach a greater range of gamers out there. Let's face it, not everybody is going to have a PlayStation 3 by this time next year when it's expected to release. I can't wait for it, the first game was absolutely amazing on all aspects.

    Another great game for the my ps3 collection.....I already own the first one and this is going to be sooooooo freaking awesome.....God of War 2 is going to show everyone that the ps3 has still some life in it.....oh yeah ...

    Okay. Now we talking Sony. Should have been for the PS3 exclusivley though. IMO Kratos is to Sony what Master Chief is to Microsoft. Either way I'll be playing both by December 07. Both on next gen. If I can be the 3rd person in line on launch day for the ps3 like I was for the 360.

    sad to here that it is making an appearance on ps2 instead of 3 but at least ill still get to play it....i sold my ps2 when i got my 360 thinkin id have a ps3 by spring...oh well

    Yes!!! GOD 2 on the works, finally my thirst for blood will be fullfiled! Lets just hope is as good or better than the MASTERPIECE that was the original!

    I hope they fix the camera a little because it can be really enoying sometimes like when you can't see the chests or which way to go
    I hope they make a camera like in the pop series where you can steer it with the right analog

    This is gonna be great. God of War was the only reason I didn't sell my PS2 or throw it in the garbage for that matter.
