Warlords overrun Civilization IV

First expansion for top strategy series will have military focus, introduce six new scenarios, new units, and new civilizations.

Since it was released last October, Civilization IV has never fallen off NPD Funworld's weekly list of top 10 best-selling PC games, selling over a million copies. The latest installment in Firaxis' long-running strategy series was also singled out by Firaxis owner Take-Two Interactive as being one of its best-selling titles during its last financial quarter.

Hoping to further capitalize on Civilization IV's success, Take-Two subsidiary 2K Games announced today that it will soon release the game's first expansion pack. Titled Civilization IV: Warlords, the expansion "pays homage to some of history's greatest military leaders." Though no Hannibals, Khans, Napoleons, Lees, Rommels, Pattons, or Schwarzkopfs were mentioned, the game promises the introduction of new Warlord units that will help turn the tide of battle in players' favor.

As has been the case with other Civilization expansions, Warlords will introduce a bevy of new units, resources, leaders, civilizations, and wonders of the world. However, 2K Games' announcement did not mention anything specific, other than that there would be "six new scenarios" that give players "the chance to change the course of history."

As yet unrated and unpriced, Civilization IV: Warlords will be released this summer. It will require the original game, which was named GameSpot's Best PC Game of 2005, to play.

Anyone have an idea if this expansion will work with the Mac OS X version of Civ IV that is due out on Monday June 26th, 2006?

Civ 4 has pretty much everything I need - so I'm not sure how much this expansion will change things.

The short feature list here isn't exactly mouth-watering, but good news anyway.

i hope that this is not a managment decision hoping to boost sales instead of trying to make a near perfect game better. when it comes out if it has the 6 new scenarios and one or two new civs for $30-$40 the guys who decided to make this expansion might be hated and fired as a result of bad sales( i hope so). on the other hand if this is what i hope it is(a complete overhaul of combat) then it would be well worth $30-$40 dollars because i think its a little ridiculous when one spearmen can hold up assault troops endlessly. maybe find a new way to make obsolete units usefull or upgradeable that wasnt so unrealistic.

The game is great but it doesn't play on my computer without using CureRom cause of it's stupid CD Protection. It says the Real DVD isn't real unless I use CureRom to Hide Nero and Alcohol from it. It's soooo anoying. People should take note of what Galactic Civilizations2 did.

Sounds promising, just hope that this doesnt fall into the trap of "more more more! game balance be damned" Still, seems a bit soon for an expansion, game won't even a year old yet if it holds to a summer release.

Not sure how much value this will add to the original. If they price it cheap or as a digital download, then sure. If they price it like expansions in the past, then I am not so sure. Civ 4 feels pretty "complete" as it is.

Your bus driver? I'm not sure how to respond to that. How well do you know your bus driver? And why? More to the point, good to see 2K Games bolstering the Civ IV game. Hopefully this expansion will realistically portray alternate histories. That could be pretty cool. They've done a decent job in the past Besides, 2Kgames needs a kick in the rump so their stock will go up.
