2K grabs deeds to Dungeon Siege

Take-Two publishing label acquires rights to Gas Powered Games' RPG; PC expansion, PSP debut scheduled for release this year.

2K Games now has something in common with maligned German director Uwe Boll, but the publisher doesn't seem to mind. The New York-based company today announced that it has acquired the publishing rights to Dungeon Siege, the Gas Powered Games role-playing series serving as the source material for Boll's upcoming film, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.

In accordance with the agreement, 2K Games will release two new Dungeon Siege properties, an expansion for the PC game Dungeon Siege II, and a new PSP game set in the Dungeon Siege universe.

Dungeon Siege II: Broken World will open up new realms for fans of the series this summer on the PC. The expansion begins where Dungeon Siege II left off and includes a new campaign, a new race, and a multiclass character development system. Gas Powered Games will be developing this first expansion for the second Dungeon Siege game.

The franchise makes its portable debut on Sony's PSP with Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony. Scheduled to hit stores in the fall, Throne of Agony will include a brand-new single-player campaign as well as support for competitive or cooperative ad hoc wireless multiplayer modes. The game is being developed by SuperVillain Studios, which formed in 2004 and is headquartered in Costa Mesa, California.

    Once I quit comparing ds2 to diablo 2 I found it much more enjoyable. Me and my friend had a blast on a vpn. We each had 4 characters on screen at the same time. Plus we had a hack not to steal our gold ifr we needed to respawn. I had him copy paste all my game friles to his game friles and it worked like a charm! We couldn't stop playing! Our girlfrriends thought we were gay LOL.

    Microsoft chose moment well: after Uwe Boll's masterpiece the Dungeon Siege series would be gone for good, I'm afraid.

    Yeah, Dungeon Siege 2 is like a 8/10 game. I hooked up with old friends for co-op and it's just huge, deep and enjoyable. Like Diablo 2 with more character/story depth. Still the same way-too-addictive armor and weapon collecting, cool demons and stuff to roast in huge crowds. It's really, really playable.

    neverwinter nights really beats out both of them imo, but its a different style gameplay, diablo 2 was sure fun, but since dungeon seige 2 is newer it brings much more to the table

    I rather enjoyed Dungeon Siege 2, despite the mediocre reviews. I'd say it's worth more than a just a 7.

    Dungeon Siege of course was not as good as Diablo but it did bring some fun gameplay to the table. It had a beautiful world and great leveling system. I am very interested to see how the PSP game will turn out. Although I would love to see a NEW Diablo game appear on the PSP as well.

    THis sounds neat wonder how well it will do.THats cool to see PSP will be getting a new game from that world.I hope it will be real fun and maybe even a MMO game now that would be real fun.

    Take Uwe Boll out of the director's chair and put someone more responsible than him and by the way your right dryden555 dungeon seige was boring and I would prefer to play Diablo 2 insted

    The Dungeon Seige games were boring diablo clones that didn't come close to matching Diablo2. Microsoft was right to unload the franchise.

    2K steals Dungeon Siege from Microsoft Game Studios? Well, that was pretty much the only way it would have made it to the PSP.
