Micro Machines ready to roll again

Codemasters announces a summer revival of miniature racing game for PS2, PSP, DS, and PC.

This month marks three complete years since a Micro Machines game has been released for a North American console, with the last entry in the series being a poorly received budget title from Infogrames. However, the brand's absence from the gaming industry is coming to an end, as Codemasters today confirmed its plans to resurrect the series with the release of Micro Machines v4 for the PlayStation 2, PSP, DS, and PC.

Micro Machines v4 will include hundreds of cars, from beach buggies to lowriders; weapon power-ups, including a car-mounted giant hammer; and nods to the series' past, including tracks set on a kitchen table, a pool table, and around the rim of a bathtub. Codemasters is entrusting the game's development to Supersonic Software, the studio behind Micro Machines 2, Antz: Extreme Racing, and Pong: The Next Level.

Micro Machines v4 is scheduled for release this summer. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's hands-on preview.

From what very early screenshots I’ve seen, the game looks very poor on the DS and im practically Heartbroken by this.... Its pretty hard to believe that the PSP version (burn to the Ground!) might i add will probably be much better version of the game, though i do hope that DS version does come out as a winner no mater hell well the other version is.

But Seriously, ok. Im predicting a Score of 4.5 to 5.6 for the DS version. Lets hope im wrong.

This could be an awesome game. The NES game rocked. Everyday stuff made the obstacles and tracks. It was a fun game!! : I remember racing on the pool table-) So long as they don't add stupid stuff to it.

Ok, how long has it been since we had a Micro Machines game? I remember playing the one on the NES but it's been a while. What a classic. If they are going to make another one I say let's go for it.

ha, a franchise game. not very interested, seeing as this game will most likely not push the industry in either the game design or gameplay or technical department. but on the other hand there is virtually no info on this game so let us sit and wait.

I was just thinking the other day about why Micro Machines hasn't been announced for the DS but thankfully it has happened.

That developer isn't going to make anything spectacular... It's a shame, if done right, with a good camera angle, you could incorporate a big sense of speed into this game, and it could be pretty cool. Probably going to be graphically unimpressive though, and do poorly in sales. Micro Machines 64 Turbo though, is one hilarious game to play with multiplayer on the fastest speeds. Don't think that's the same developer who's making this one though -.-

Wow, micromachines.. I'd forgot about them...

Indeed, micromachines for NES was a great, great game thats graphics were smooth, polished and stellar at the time for being on the NES....

What a great game it was though.. One of the classics you (or your best friend or favourite cousin) had to have in their collection... Sorta like Zelda and any of the Super Mario Bros...

Lets hope they manage to pull this one off with somewhere near the same quality....

Codemasters has picked a lackluster developer to create this title, and considering that, I'm not too excited. "Micro Machines" on the NES (and Genesis) was a fantastic and fun little game, where simplicity ruled and a group of friends could have plenty of fun. It's a shame that such brainless enjoyment won't be had on the PSP as well, unless Supersonic Software manages to somehow pull a rabbit out of their hat with this one.

I love the Micro Machines game for the NES. I hope they do it justice .. The beauty about this type of racing game is that you can add all sorts of content because of the miniature size of the cars

I loved the cornflakes , pencils, rulers etc that you had to drive on for the NES.

Could be fun if it's done right. Though I'm not convinced the PSP needs ANOTHER driving game! :S
