New PS3 details next week?

Koei president announces he expects new information on the PS3 during a licensee-only meeting next week in Japan.

TOKYO--Sony Computer Entertainment has been adamantly silent to the press about any new details regarding its PlayStation 3. It also appears it hasn't been talking much to its third-party publishing partners either. While Koei has always been a top SCE supporter, releasing a new game around the launch of each PlayStation, it hasn't heard any word on the forthcoming next-gen console.

That may soon change, though. At a Tokyo press conference today, Koei president Kiyoshi Komatsu stated that SCE is holding a conference next week, and he expects to receive updates then. "I really have no [new] information on the PlayStation 3," said Komatsu. "[But] SCE will be holding a presentation next week on the 15th. We expect there will be some new information regarding the PS3 then."

GameSpot confirmed with SCE that a meeting will indeed be taking place next week. However, it will be limited to third-party publishers only, with no press access.

Whether SCE will be unveiling anything big during the meeting, such as the widely rumored PS3 launch delay, is unknown at the current time. Komatsu's final words during his conference today indicate that SCE may itself still be unsure about what it will announce. "I've been consulted with SCE about what kind of details they should announce," said Komatsu. "I've told them that I'm hoping they will make an announcement that will heat up the game industry."

    sony is makin you guys wait and when it does release........it will be on back order as they wont have the parts to make a big supply.....you all are gonna be dyin because you wont have one...and guess what you better beleive that x360 will be in big supply when the ps3 launches.....microsoft will get most of the sony camp....you all just watch ....especailly with mass effect, gears, war devil and halo3 this christmans sony better have sometin on the shelf because they are loosin as we speak!!!

    I wouldn't actually mind a delay. I have so many games for PC(and new Zelda for GC of course) i have to play yet, and I want the PS3 to be flawless(no problems) with a large amount of launch titles. I could wait til next year for one.

    Agreed.....we have too many guards and they all suck....Devon Brown is probably the worst dribbler in the league....I like McLeod and Williams, but no one steps up to lead the team....oh well....now I'm super pissed at Sony and the Jazz, lol

    mpalacio.. you're not a jazz fan are you? as in... Milt Palacio? I'm here in Utah, and I yell at my tv every time they put him in the game. He drives well, but fails to do much of anything else.

    Me? I am a fan of PS2 and especially love SOCOM. However, the lag and difficulty getting into a ranked room even though I registered was a pain. Now comes the PS3; what is the hold up? Geez, I actually have the whole summer off from college and would love to get some gaming in. But, where's the PS3? Guess what. Even though I love PS2 I went out and got an XBOX 360 last week and picked up Quake 4, Call of duty 2, and Ghost Recon. These are great looking games not to mention the superiority of XBOX Live. I mean compared to the PS2 they have the online system down to a science. Little pop ups will come up on the screen if a friend is looking for you, will give you an option to join, and it automatically signs you in for all games instead of you having to sign in for each individual game like the PS2. This is a great system. Reality is that the PS3 just might be graphically better than the XBox 360 (or vice versa), but the XBox was graphically better than PS2, however, that did not stop me from enjoying the PS2 any less for the past few years. Yes, I will miss games like God of War and Socom, but with the Xbox I missed games like Halo and Chronicles of Riddick. In the end I am enjoying the next generation games now, a very superior on-line system, and do not have to worry about when the PS3 system will be released, how much it will cost, and if they will re-design that dumb looking controller. Sorry Sony, you tested my patience and lost a long time customer. Thank you for the years but it is time to move on.

    With E3 onnly a few short months away, they'll likely wait until after the show to launch. E3 footage is like crack for gamers, and the publicity is way too valuable.

    I really dont care when ps3 is released, when it arrives iŽll buy it. I can wait. I'm busy right now with my 360.

    I am so tired of them beating around the bush god damnt when the hell is the ps3 coming out ! hopefully soon. Im waiting for it to come out and then have all kinds of bs recalls on them!!! wouldnt that just be the highlight of the year

    Well I could say this if its a delay for the PS3, I hope when it comes out it really kick ass because their have to be a reason for us watting for it personally I'm ready but whatever happens I hope its that good.

    I hope they don't delay it too much!! My original PS2 just broke (after 5 yesrs!)and I don't want to have to buy a new one w/ the PS3 so close!

    well quality takes time so if sony is gona realeas ps3 at end of 06 well thats gud for many reasons shore xbox might get a head start but the trouble with pplz these days is they follow technology so if sony is keeping quite its for a reason so dont go judge them saying that there suck and **** have sum patientce cuz its not easy to make a console go sony woop ms ass gud on u oh and plus it gives us time to save up to get ps3 so yea once again ps3 rules and i hope it crushes 360 withc it will wait for ps3 tru gamers will

    Sony is ridiculous! They don't even know what to say to their developered, nevermind the public! It seems as if they are pretty disorganised. If you thought the Xbox 360 launch was a disaster, you are gonna die at the PS3 launch.

    Im worried now about the future of Playstation. I hope they do announce a delay quite honestly, I think they need to take some time and plan a strategy against the 360 and its strengths, if they rush it things will get really bad really quick especially if the machine is expensive, which is sounds like may be the case. Honestly, I'm perfectly happy with my existing systems and PC games and would rather see them delay and get it right.

    it's about a delay!!!!! .don't get excited...it's a delay...there's no way a launch is gonna happen any time soon....the ps3 will launch in japan in the 4th quarter...then in the u.s. in 2007...

    i am forced not to believe this, its only been the like 653634 time they have said new news is coming out in like a week and such. Sony better do something cause they are losing fans by the day and i have talked to many sony fanboys that are really discouraged with ps3 after all the stuff sony lied about. sony better fess up soon, and they better do it in a really nice way and have lots of TRUE facts, and also some awesome things we didn't know that will persuade people back over to their side. personally i think they have lost me but i'm going to wait till E3 to decide. sorry sony u did it urself

    Either its gonna be more hype to keep gamers interested and not look elsewhere like a few here commented, or its gonna be the delay announcment. If Sony doesnt say something like "We are releasing it in Spring for a Japan launch, then US" then I am not interested. Ive moved on and am tired of their games they are playing with us. Screen shots for Metal Gear dont do it for me anymore, nor does anything they do to the PS3 justify an 800 dollar price tag. BTW, I am a real gamer also, and own all current consoles and a 360. Im not the one who sold out. Sony did by keeping us in the dark and lying.

    Oh come on now, all they want to do is hype it again, so it keeps people from buying any other system out there, well if any of you out there have held off from buying a 360 because you dont know when ps3 is coming out, man are you missing out....Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter is now out on 360 and man this game rocks!!! All sony wants to do is feed you very little information a little at a time to keep you interested. Just announce that it is not coming out till spring 2007, bite the bullet and move on.
