Me and My Katamari golden

The Prince of All Cosmos' first handheld outing rolls off to the factory, due in stores later this month.

The Katamari series keeps on rolling. After 2004's Katamari Damacy proved an unexpected hit for Namco, the publisher quickly began developing a sequel. When We Love Katamari returned the series to the PlayStation 2 last September, it also proved popular in both the US and Japan, where total sales of the franchise have exceed 500,000 copies.

Now, the oddball series is primed to conquer a new platform. Today Namco Bandai Games America, the US publishing arm of the newly formed Japanese toy-game giant Namco Bandai, announced that Me and My Katamari has gone gold for the PSP. Set for release later this month, the game is rated E for Everyone and will retail for $39.99.

Me and My Katamari continues the adventures of the Prince of All Cosmos, a cartoonish protagonist whose head resembles a pastel-painted subwoofer. Like previous installments, the game will feature the Prince solving some sort of intergalactic crisis by rolling an assortment of everyday objects into an ever-expanding, snowball-like mass. An extensive breakdown of the travails the wee hero will face can be found in GameSpot's previous coverage.

The game looks very promising, however I'm concerned on how well they translated the game mechanics from the PS2 to the PSP. I've played Taiko no Tatsujin Portable and some songs are simply impossible to complete.

"oh c'mon, ya'll should be excited. how many original, innovative games recently came out for ant ps plattform"
Not to bash Katamari but rehasing an innovative game twice is not innovation, this is just yet another port for the portstation portable.

I have the Japanese Verizon. It is quite fun , though it has repeated levels and the controls are bad a first but actually become better then the PS2's as you continue to play. The new cousins are fun and well designed and it has music from all the games. Plus after you beat it you can take pictures during the game.

I liked the PS2 version a lot but I think this game just will end up being the wacky, artistic craziness that no one will buy. Kids that have a PSP only want 'da urban xperience' on their PSP so I won't be surprised if it fails
