Nintendo Wi-Fi reaches one million milestone

Publisher boasts a total of 27 million connections made between a million DS players around the world.

Nintendo started 2006 with word that its Wi-Fi Connection service for the Nintendo DS was off to a quick start, having connected 550,000 gamers since its debut last year. Three months later, the company is touting the popularity of the service once more. Nintendo today announced that the Wi-Fi Connection service has logged one million players since it started.

"Players are embracing our model of a compelling, safe, easy-to-use wireless gaming service," Nintendo of America executive vice-president of sales and marketing Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement. "Those one million users represent more than 27 million game sessions."

Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World, and Tony Hawk's American Sk8land are the only North American titles to use the Wi-Fi Connection so far, although Tetris DS and Metroid Prime: Hunters will both use the service when they see release March 20.
