THQ sips the Juice
Multiyear partnership gets even closer as publisher acquires Juiced developer for first internal Euro studio.
THQ, you got the Juice now. Early 1990s Tupac Shakur movie references aside, the Agoura Hills, California-based publisher today announced that it has acquired Juice Games. The deal gives THQ its first internal studio based in Europe, specifically, in Warrington, UK.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Colin Bell, Juice Games' managing director, will now assume the role of general manager.
The two companies were previously in cahoots with the developer's first game, the street racer Juiced. The game didn't get off the starting line too quickly; it was originally set to be part of Acclaim's portfolio before the publisher met its fate. THQ outbid rival publishers for the game's rights, and Juiced finally pulled into North American stores last June.
Juice Games' next project is the PSP spinoff of the million-plus seller Juiced, Juiced: Eliminator, set for release this summer. Along with Destroy All Humans!, Juiced, which was released on the PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, helped THQ's Q1 revenue for FY2006 nearly double the number set for the previous year.
THQ and Juice did not announce any new projects in the works. For more on Juiced, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
