Family Guy games on the way

2K Games nabs license for multiple "freakin' sweet" games; first game to appear this fall; High Voltage to do the development honors.

After more than a year with nary a peep on the Family Guy games in development at 2K Games, one would be excused for thinking it perhaps went the way of the original Family Guy TV show. And one would be right, because much like the TV Show, the gaming project has returned to the public eye after a bit of a dormant stretch.

2K Games today reannounced its intentions to bring the profoundly dysfunctional Griffin family to the world of gaming, saying that it has picked up the rights to develop and publish "some freakin' sweet" games based on the TV show, starting with a current-generation console offering this fall.

"The irreverent and satirical humor from Family Guy that has made the show a smash hit opens up exciting and untapped possibilities in game development," said Christoph Hartmann, managing director of 2K Games. "We are looking forward to bringing the colorful Family Guy characters to life in a one-of-a-kind action/adventure style game."

As for who the publisher has entrusted with that duty [insert sophomoric Family Guy reference here], that would be High Voltage Games. No stranger to crude, tasteless humor, High Voltage was the studio behind 2004's VU Games' crass collegiate adventure game Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude.

in case you didn't notice...i did say "for me". i can't/don't want M-rated games. and just my luck...it is M. oh well...hopefully there's a DS version that's not...

Who cares if it's rated M! Let's just hope it's a game worth your money, but even if it's crappy, I'll buy it anyway.

Hmmm... This game will be a toss up... If you think about it, there are a lot of REALLY crappy games on the market which once evolved from brilliant television shows but there are also some games which came from television shows that are actually quite good. Take the Simpsons for example... There are absolutely TONS of CRAPPY Simpsons games out on the market but then all of a sudden a good simpson game comes out such as Hit and Run. We must hope that the Family Guy game is a "one in a million" game which is actually good from a television series. Although, 2K Games and High Voltage are respectable enough game developers who I believe will make a fairly enjoyable game. I believe the game will be as fun as Futurama meaning, it wont be an absolutely fantastic game but it will be enjoyable and it will stick to the humourous points of the television series. Hopefully the Family Guy game will feature the same sort of crude humour of the Leisure Suit Larry Franchises... Anyways we should be open minded and optimistic about this game instead of jumping to false assumptions that it will be another crappy television series game. We can only hope it will be another "one in a million" game which is actually quite fun and humourous...

This game looks promising, I just hope they don't mess it up. I might get it when it comes out and to the people complaining about the graphics or lack of information, the game is in very early development the graphics are bound to not be top notch or there not have released that much information about it, so i'm just saying don't judge the game yet wait until we have more information on it or a video or something.

The only way that this game will be worthy of bearing the Family Guy name and likeness, is if the developers: #1. switch it over to either PS3 or X360, and #2. make the graphics engine mimic the original animation of the television series. This way it would be like playing episodes of the cartoon, which will make the experience more familiar- rather than distorting one of the aspects that attracted fans to the series in the first place.

    "That'll be nothing, please"
    "How come?"
"It's not as if the consumers care about quality. It's just like clothing. Slap a big name on and it'll sell, Sell, SELL!
    "OK then."

Let's see, the companies that brought us Zathura are making another game based on a popular tv show... we may as well give it a 5.3 right now and move on with our lives.

The only way this could be a good game is if they made it like GTA, made 6 unique storylines for each character (Peter, Lois, Brian, STEWIE, Chris, and god-awful Meg, though I'd rather see Quagmire inserted where Meg is

But that would take too long so we'll get some junk platformer that focuses entirely on Stewie and has crummy graphics. Instead of wasting $50 on this game, buy some Family Guy T-Shirts lol

Wow, the odds of this turning out to be another crappy tv show based game, then Family Guy will have lost almost all dignity. I love Family Guy and i do not wanna see it go down the drain due to a crappy game. 2K games better not mess this up, but i have a feeling they will.

I really dont see how it will "ruin" the series, It might be an unsuccessful game but that will do nothing bad to the TV show.

    Posted Mar 7, 2006 1:46 pm PT

It's probably going to suck just like every other video game made after a cartoon tv show. The only one that ever did it right was Virtual Bart, especially the "Picture Day" game where you threw tomatoes and eggs.

the simpsons has had some great games, mostly because of the variety of locations, characters and vehicles seen in the show (all these have been well incorporated in their games), but i don't see how anybody can make a successful game out of family guy.

Ugh! Why even TRY?? Even if it's good i don't want it. I don't have time for anymore good games. I'd need two & a half lifetimes and two & a half good jobs to play them all. can you guys jus take a break from tryna make good games for a couple years so i can catch up?? or at leass please jus make sucky games for a while. i'll let you know when i'm ready.

Sigh. why oh why- why do you have to ruin the Legend that is Family Guy by making a game which would be lucky to even make it to the pre-owned section in a shop.
