To date, there are three racing games available for the Xbox 360: Need for Speed Most Wanted, Project Gotham Racing 3, and Ridge Racer 6. However, the fourth racing game for the console is generating a lot of interest, despite being already available--and highly acclaimed--on the Xbox and PlayStation 2. That game would be Burnout Revenge, the first next-gen installment in the high-intensity racing series from publisher Electronic Arts and developer Criterion Games, which went gold today.

Like its current-gen versions, the Xbox 360 Burnout Revenge will let players engage in a series of high-speed racing events laced with wanton destruction. However, the game has been given a visual upgrade, with car models rebuilt specifically to take advantage of the 360's high-definition graphics capabilities, and also features enhanced sound effects. It will also sport an impressive range of 36 achievements, including many that can be earned only via impressive feats on Xbox Live. Online play is also amped up by the game's "Live Revenge" mode, which helps foster online rivalries with opponents on Microsoft's game service.

The next-gen Burnout Revenge is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older; like other third-party Xbox 360 games, it will retail for $59.99. To learn more about its gameplay and features, test drive GameSpot's previous coverage.
