Konami ships PSP pair

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim and Street Supremacy now shipping to stores around the country.

Konami is bolstering the PlayStation Portable catalog today with a pair of new offerings. The publisher has announced that it shipped the head-to-head racer Street Supremacy and the action role-playing game Ys: The Ark of Napishtim to stores nationwide.

The latest edition of the Tokyo Highway Battle series, Street Supremacy lets gamers try to become king of the road through various game modes, including a team battle mode in which rival crews claim turf through winning races or sending opponents into walls. The game features licensed cars from manufacturers such as Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Subaru, as well as the ability to modify rides with paint jobs, spoilers, exhausts, and other new parts.

Meanwhile, The Ark of Napishtim, a PSP port of the PlayStation 2 role-playing game of the same name, follows the exploits of redheaded hero Adol Christin. When Adol is swept up in the Great Vortex and dropped off on an unknown series of islands surrounded by mysterious whirlpools, he must fight his way back home. Besides shrinking the adventure down for the small screen, the PSP version also sports a number of exclusive features, including minigames, a character profile database, and a media player.

Street Supremacy is rated E for Everyone, while Ys: The Ark of Napishtim is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older. Both retail for $29.99. Check back soon for GameSpot's full reviews for both games.

true, but then again sequels are much cheaper to develop and if the game sold well on ps2 then why not a port to psp ?

Almost all PSP games are sequels of PS-2 games. Can't they make any unique game???

i love my psp, just wish it had cheaper games, a little piece inside me dies everytime I see the prices on a video game! and now next gen is gonna be 60, i have to work more hours, quit video gaming for good, steal, or wait for x-mas and b-day's. Whichever comes first.

Ys is just a plain ol' port, I rather play it on the PS2, but PSP owners should be happy with it. It's a great game.

Sony *should* release a PSP game based on Champions of Norrath. With the release of X-men Legends II, we know it can be done well.

Street Supremacy sounds like Burnout... hmmm. One thing to note though, is Burnout is E10+ while Street Supremacy is only E. I guess Burnout is more violent in its crashes and such?

You can keep exploring PSP as a viable portable platform with a very similar design pipeline as PS2. They just need to get with the program and keep the flow steady. And we need exclusives with features that stretch all the PSP's options. The Game Sharing, infrared, the online...the memory stick is perfect for user-created content like tradeable levels, items etc. Sony is dropping the ball on this goldmine. *note: Wipeout PSP had a nice flow of extra downloadable ships and race tracks for months after release.

answering that guy above; i suspect with the ps2 ultimately starting to wind down (Sony says they'll support it for a while still, but nonetheless its winding down), the various devs are getting round to exploring the psp.

The latest Ys (Ys VI I think) is nothing compared to the old Ys games though, they had much better music, better graphics (better with awesome 2D graphics than half-cool 3D ), Ys I&II Complete is an awesome package and remake of the first and second of the games and they rock hard ^^ Especially Book of Ys II, but ah, Ys VI/Ark of Naphistism, isn't as cool in my opinion, but on the go, it might be cool enough to buy
