Midway, THQ invade Europe
Mortal Kombat publisher grabs chateau nouveau in Paris; WWE publisher says "Goddag" to Copenhagen.
Though some gaming companies may joke about world domination, others take it a little more seriously. Two of the largest American third-party game publishers are expanding operations into one of the largest markets in the world, Europe.
Chicago-based Midway has announced that a new subsidiary will be landing in Paris, France. Midway Games SAS will handle sales and marketing in the country and will be headed by former Activision sales director Antoine Seux. Midway also has bases in the UK and in Germany.
THQ, headquartered in Agoura Hills, California, is also moving some operations across the Atlantic. The company will be opening a sales and marketing office in Copenhagen, Denmark, in order to cover all of Scandinavia, according to investment agency Copenhagen Capacity. The branch will employ 11 people initially, with 25 expected to be in-house further down the line.
