Melty Blood soaking PS2s

After drubbing arcades, the home-brew fighting game is coming to Japanese PlayStation 2s, courtesy of publisher Ecole.

Melty Blood

Coming soon to the PS2!
Watch | Download

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Ecole Software is porting Melty Blood: Act Cadenza to the PlayStation 2. The 2D fighting game was originally a home-brew title released for the PC by independent game development group Watanabe Seisakujo, but it later appeared in arcades due to its popularity. The PS2 version will be based on the arcade release, meaning that it includes Aoko Aozaki and Kouma Kishima, two new characters not available on the original PC game.

Turning home-brew games into retail products is becoming a more common practice for Japanese game publishers. Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment joined the trend when it revealed during TGS 2005 that its next PSP title will be based on the home-brew game Every Extend Extra.

Famitsu reports that development of Melty Blood: Act Cadenza for the PS2 is currently 60 percent complete. No release period has been set for the game yet. For more details on the arcade version, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Its a shame how most people are claiming Melty Blood as being a Guilty Gear clone. Anyway, Melty Blood is, in fact, a tad bit faster than Guilty Gear in terms of play ablility. The game "Free-Flow" fighting system makes the game fights very fast paced and rather balanced with everyone in the game in terms of trying to pull off combos. Thank goodness......because of that, we don't have to worry about infinite combos being pulled off like they are in Guilty Gear. Their nearly non-exsistant in MB: Act Cadenza.

Definetly worthed importing guys. That's 3 Melty Blood Games under my belt now (Final Tuned had to be downloaded since its legal to do so and because French-Bread & Type-Moon allowed it due to limited copies of the expansion).

I might import this. I loved the anime and will probably like this too. So far, looks better than Guilty Gear gameplay wise. I'm no graphic whore, but it adds a nice touch to games (waiting for Tales of Destiny Remake)...

For the people who think this is a new game. No, it's not. For the people who think it's a Guilty Gear clone, no it's not. Personally I preferr this over Guilty Gear. And so does Japan. Melty Blood: Act Cadenza has been in the top 10 arcade games in Japan every since it was available in Japan. It's very fast pace and very addicting. I've been playing it for a while and I can't stand playing any other 2-D fighter. They are all so slow and seem to have no action compared to this.

About it coming to the states, no. I bet you money it won't for a long time. The biggest reason is because I beleive the company will only be porting it and not adding content. The whole game is Japanese, with a lot of Japanese voice talent (the best in a fighting game, ever) and it would be a lot of work to translate both the text and the dialog. But, if we pray enough, it will happen. GameSpot needs to have the demo available. If anyone email's me, I might host a demo on my server.

I think there will be a story mode just like the PC version, or maybe something differrent from it. I had not been to arcade for years.. and for those who still unsure what is Melty Blood is all about you can check out this website: www.insertcredit.com/reviews/meltyblood screenshots and reviews will be provided. or the Official site of Melty Blood: Act Cadenza @ e56.info/mbac/ (Japanese).

Yay for me. One of my favourite arcade 2D fighters coming to home is great news... I can't wait. I don't know how many 100yen coins I've used to play this at the arcade. Now I can save those and wait for the PS2 version. I doubt tis will go west but you better hope it will be coz this game is great fun to play and relatively well balanced IMO. Love the characters from Shingetsutan Tsukimine...... PS2 looks like still getting love here. Between FFXII (March release) and Melty Blood: Act Cadenza I'll be happy and quite satisfied till Rev and PS3 comes out.

I don't know why people call melty blood a GG clone, because it has nothing to do with it. It's slower and puts a bigger emphasis on ground combos than guilty gear. Beside, melty blood has stuff like Blood heat which is basically a tension bar which can be tricked out to heal and to pull off more powerful moves. And there's no fatality. It's simpler than GG, but at the same time, completely different. Also, I do hope they put some of the moves that they made available with the final tuned version of the pc game, in this version (I want to charge Ren's icicles, she sucks without that ;_. Oh, and you're probably gonna have to import it. A US version is HIGHLY unlikely.

wow!!. That's a very cool 2d fighting game, it kind of reminds me of a another fighting game called Rumble Fish. I hope they bring it very soon, something fresh in the 2d fighting arena.

Are people actually saying this is a Guilty Gear clone?

People, Melty Blood is nothing like Guilty Gear. It moves MUCH MUCH slower.

like a lot of japanese indie fighters, it basically IS a GG clone. But its a pretty well done one, to the point where more than a few people have claimed the Melty Blood games are better than the GG games. Take that as you will, just throwing it out there.

MELTY BLOOD! The name alone says it all!... Uh.

Looks cool! There's no such thing as too many 2-D fighting games, I hope it sees a North American release!

Looks very "Guilty Gear"...bring on some beautiful 2-D goodness for the next gen systems while we're at it here...a high-def 2-D Castlevania would likely give me a bliss-gasm...
