Melty Blood soaking PS2s
After drubbing arcades, the home-brew fighting game is coming to Japanese PlayStation 2s, courtesy of publisher Ecole.
According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Ecole Software is porting Melty Blood: Act Cadenza to the PlayStation 2. The 2D fighting game was originally a home-brew title released for the PC by independent game development group Watanabe Seisakujo, but it later appeared in arcades due to its popularity. The PS2 version will be based on the arcade release, meaning that it includes Aoko Aozaki and Kouma Kishima, two new characters not available on the original PC game.
Turning home-brew games into retail products is becoming a more common practice for Japanese game publishers. Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment joined the trend when it revealed during TGS 2005 that its next PSP title will be based on the home-brew game Every Extend Extra.
Famitsu reports that development of Melty Blood: Act Cadenza for the PS2 is currently 60 percent complete. No release period has been set for the game yet. For more details on the arcade version, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
