DS MechAssault detailed

Majesco and Backbone give robot-heavy franchise 20 types of vehicles, wireless play, and a new story on Nintendo's portable.

Piloting giant walking robots in combat requires years of training, lightning-quick reflexes, and nerves of steel. But in gamers' cases, it'll just require ample control of a DS stylus. Details have been released about MechAssault: Phantom War, which makes its way to the DS later this year.

The third-person shooter is currently in development by Backbone Entertainment, a division of Foundation 9 Entertainment. The top screen will show the traditional third-person view of the action, and the bottom screen will show the inside of the combat, complete with battle mech controls. Using the stylus, gamers will be able to hack mechs, eject themselves, and switch weapons.

The single-player mode features 24 campaigns spanning four planets, and wireless multiplayer allows up to four players to compete in three different modes. Twenty types of vehicles will be included in the game, such as battle mechs, tanks, and battle armor.

Rating and pricing information have not been announced for MechAssault: Phantom War.

The touch screen mechanics sound like it's gonna turn out to be a lot like MechWarrior.

i liked the mechwarrior games so much better than mechassault. they simulation aspect of having to detail every part of your mech was the best part of the franchise, and they scrapped it....such a shame

Bad graphics = bad game?! Ace_the_ace, have you been playing video games for what? Five minutes? I kind of feel a little sorry for you if you base your gaming decisions on that credo, it means you have missed, are missing, and will miss many great games.

I also agree with you LionsGate, the poster that said it has bad graphics has obviously not seen the screenshots. People should open their eyes and get informed before they pass judegment. This game, I'm sure is going to be great. Its not being made by Day1 Studios, but I still think it will come out being one of the best on the DS.
