Xbox Live Marketplace packed with new content

King Kong demo, theme packs for Fight Night 3, Hexic HD, Bejeweled 2, Crystal Quest content now available.

Microsoft continues to make good on its promise of regularly delivered content on its Xbox Live Marketplace service. Today, another crop of downloads arrived online for gamers to customize their Xbox 360 experience, try out a demo for one of the launch titles, and alter the newest Xbox Live Arcade shooter.

The free demo for Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie is now available for download and clocks in at 575MB. The game was originally released on November 22 as a launch title for the Xbox 360. For more information, read GameSpot's full review.

The latest Xbox Live Arcade game, Crystal Quest, has gotten its first slew of content packs. For 100 Marketplace points ($1.25) apiece, gamers can change the sights and sounds of the shooter. Now available are the Animal Madness and Super Synth sound packs, the Sketch and Nano graphics packs, and the Xtreme Scenario. GameSpot's review of Crystal Quest has more details on the game.

Fight Night Round 3 doesn't hit stores until next week, but plenty of content has already punched onto Marketplace. Joining the game's demo, which was released January 4, are pictures and theme packs. Theme packs for puzzlers Hexic HD and Bejeweled 2 are also available. Customization doesn't come free, though. Themes cost 150 Marketplace points ($1.88) and picture packs cost 50 Marketplace points ($.63).

It'd be nice if I could play orginal xbox demos on the 360. Those of us who receive OXM discs would appreciate not having to swap discs in and out of the two systems. I would be especially happy due to the fact that my original xbox, complete with Thompson dvd drive, has finally spun it's last after years of battling dirty or damaged disk read errors (on mint condition discs). A timely death since it coincided with my purchase of a 360 but unfortunately I can't play the Black or Painkiller demos.

By the way, which would be the better use for a dollar? Downloading new colors for Crystal Quest or wiping my arse after a huge deuce?

Expect Astropop, Jewel Quest, Feeding Frenzy all in late February, and Street Fighter 2HF in March. As well as demos in late Feb/early March for at least some of the game releasing in March.

Where did you hear that Astropop will be on the marketplace?

    I would definetely buy it!!

I can blame MS' for allowing half-broken demos to be released on to the beautiful thing that is the xbox live marketplace.

  • bradberry9

    Posted Feb 14, 2006 3:53 pm GMT

Why allow a half broken demo to even be released? The download system is brilliant, just don't allow broken demos to be released. Allowing that trash onto the 360 is MS' fault.

Why allow a half non-working demo to be released? The download system is brilliant, just don't allow half done demos to even be released. Allowing that onto the 360 is MS' fault.

I've been a PS user since 96 and always refused to get an Xbox cause none of my money needs to go to Mr. Gates. So i cracked and got a 360 because Elder Scrolls IV looks unreal, but the marketplace has now changed my views on Xbox completely. I now am questioning whether or not to shell out $700 for a PS3!

you cant blame MS for the demo's not working cus thats up to the game makes to have things like that running the way there ment to be, atm its earliy days but 6month's down the line there be games (better games) being added on a weekly basic's to just hang on in there plus this is all new for consols, i think we expect to much to fast these days....

i want content of stuff that's not out!!..that's the whole point of a demo...King Kong??.. freaking game has been out for 3 months...if i didn't get it by now...do you really think i'm gonna want the crappy demo??..dumbazzezzzz!!..

how about demos for " the outfit".." gears of war".." ghost recon"....otherwise...all the content is garbage and useless...

Bejewled? Why would you play that on a $400 game machine when you could play it on your cell phone?

  • exclusiveburner

    Posted Feb 14, 2006 6:25 am GMT

i like what microsoft is doing when they add content but still those prices are a little high....i know its only a dollar here and there but it adds up and I'm sure sum of these kids parents are going to be upset when they see the next bill showing all the content downloaded and such

these updates are good but also kind of a waste of money and time, King Kong is a pretty bad game despite the graphics which are pretty poor also, Fight Night 3 seems good tho

I thought I was doing something wrong on the V-rex demo. The level you play as Kong (can't remember the name) was tight though.

Also, on the subject of the Full Auto demo, did anyone else ever end up getting knocked off of the main course and stuck inside one of the buildings. Never had the freeze glitch, but had this happen to one of my brothers when they were playing.

Just wanna say that I love the marketplace. I think the demos/trailers/themes idea is great. I personally love the movie previews. I just watched the new one for MI:3 last night. The fact that I can get something like that on a console is great.

I love Xbox Live. It's worth the $50 a year membership. If anything, for the way less lag experience.

Have played it on around 10 different occasions.

Confirmed: The King Kong V-Rex demo is broken..... unless the player was intended to walk around an extremely small section of land with absolutely nothing to do except click on a couple of NPCs who exhibit a quick waving of the arms, then just stand there. Uhm, I just hope actual retail games don't start accomplishing such atrocious feats.

  • bradberry9

    Posted Feb 13, 2006 8:51 pm GMT

It is common knowledge that the Full Auto demo causes freeze ups for the entire 360 forcing you to reboot (did it to me the first 2 times), read the gamespot news release about the demo. As for Kong, have you played the demo? Did the V-Rex level get past the first area? I was just stating that it (the V-Rex level) didn't work for me. Not bashing the 360 marketplace, it is one of my favorite aspects of the 360, it just annoys me when the demos do not work for me.

Still praying for Geometry Wars 3. Astropop is pretty fun though and Feeding Frenzy is fun, if extremely simple. I play them at work during my lunch break *shrugs*

To add new content you have to pay for on a game that just came out (Crystal Quest) is a bit crappy IMO. These silly things could have came with the game for free.

  • bradberry9

    Posted Feb 13, 2006 3:40 pm GMT

As said before, the V-Rex demo just doesn't work. Please keep releasing broken demos (Full Auto) to us. We will just gobble them up because we are desperate for anything to play.
