Advent Children gets US release date, voice cast

Final Fantasy movie comes to America on UMD and feature-packed DVD in late April; Rachael Leigh Cook, Mena Suvari join cast.

It's been a long time coming for North American fans of Final Fantasy, but the countdown can officially begin--home versions of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is coming to the US on April 25. The computer animated film based on the Square Enix franchise was previously released in theaters and on UMD and DVD in Japan, where it has sold hundreds of thousands of copies. The 101-minute film was directed by Tetsuya Nomura and Tekeshi Nozue and written by Kazushige Nojima.

The stars of the movie's English-language cast were also revealed today. Steve Burton, who gamers may know as the voice of Cloud Strife in the Kingdom Hearts games, was a lock to reprise the role of Cloud for the movie, but two Hollywood starlets will also become very familiar to FF fans soon. Rachael Leigh Cook (Josie and the Pussycats, She's All That) and Mena Suvari (American Beauty, Six Feet Under) will voice Tifa and Aerith, respectively, in both Advent Children and the upcoming PlayStation 2 game Kingdom Hearts II.

Those who can't decide between the DVD and the PSP-friendly UMD formats may want to opt for the DVD version. The 2-disc set features a bonus DVD with a story digest, deleted scenes, a "making of" featurette, and footage from the film's debut at the 2004 Venice Film Festival, as well as peeks of upcoming Final Fantasy VII-based games.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is rated PG-13 and will retail for $26.96.

    Is one movie worth 27 and change?!?! I remember when NO movie was over 20 bucks. I'll borrow it from someone someday. I love the guys in FF7 but damn.... besides, I thought everyone has seen this already anyways that REALLY wants to.

    I err....still can't see why Wally Wingert would voice the tyrannical Rufus Shinra....I remember Wally as the voice as Almighty Tallest Red from Invader Zim and Ivan from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.....unless he can do a more serious role instead of a comically wimpy voice, I'll be surprised.

    i cant see either of those two women being the voice for either characters. but then again, i cant picture anyone else really being the voice either. i think they might have made the best choice. not such big name stars that everyone knows them, and there isnt one huge character that either of them is associated with, that i know of. so i think they made the right choice

    final fantasy sucks i hate it and if u want a little bit more about what i think of the game then i think cloud and those other sorry excuse of players are the most pethetic crappy characters and this is one of the most crappiest things i ever heard. making a movie of final fantasy you all are twits

I have all of the posters and everyother Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children merchindise you could think of. I'm their biggest fan.     What happened to Mandy Moore?!? Mena Suvari sounds like a man and looks like a piranha! I like Rachel Leigh Cook though, so it's ok. I didn't read all the comments, but if no one mentioned, these are the same voices for Kingdom Hearts II.... KH1 had Mandy Moore as Aerith, wish they kept her.

    It's going to be amazing. Now what would make it even better is if you could have a setting for the Japanese voices. Not only would that save me the trouble of having to get a copy of the Japanese version but it'd be cool.

    I've already seen this, but will buy the DVD anyways. This is what should have been in North American theatres a few years back, not that boring hollywood trash. It is a true sentiment to the game, and fans should love every bit of it. My only wish is that Sony makes a FF7 re-make possible on the PS3

    oh my goodedness... FINALLY!!!! maaan i so cannot wait for this to happen. i just hope that everything especially the music remains intact.. dont want to lose the magical touch of the movie. what i really cant wait to see is the english version of the making of the movie and all the special features.. finally!!!!!!

    WOW finally, boy..I totally forgot about this movie until this..I did watch the japanese version, AWESOME movie folks, its definately worth buying and well...I will buy US version, but I hope they include Japanese Audio + English Subs...I might not like the English Audio...which has happened before. In Japanese it just sounds more realistic and enthusiastic.

    But anyways, now I'd like them to re-release FF7, I have never finished it...I guess I just dont like the gfx or somethin. I am pretty sure that the FF fans would really like it if it did re-release, imagine the gfx of today with an amazing storyline n audio .

    lol. i just bought the damn thing from japan.

    english subtitles and all. im wasnt going to be watching the dubbed version anyway.

    everyone always has a hard time making a decent english dubbing.

    laffs at all.
