Tekken coming to PSP

Namco is bringing the King of Iron Fist tournament to Sony's portable, details to be unveiled next week.

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Namco is currently developing a Tekken title for release on Sony's PSP. It isn't known whether the game will be a new installment of the series or a port from the arcades. Details are set to be revealed next week.

While not developed by Sony, the Tekken series has been largely exclusive to that company's consoles. The first three Tekken arcade games were ported exclusively to the PlayStation, with the PlayStation 2 being the sole home to ports of Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 4, and Tekken 5. A port of the Tekken 5 arcade upgrade, Dark Resurrection, has yet to be announced for any system.

The next Tekken installment set for home consoles is the series' debut on the PlayStation 3. No details or even a name for that project have been announced, but it was included in Sony's reel of PS3 trailers at the system's unveiling during last year's Electronics Entertainment Expo.

While Tekken has been a Sony exclusive on the home front, the series has twice ventured onto other company's portable machines. Tekken Advance approximated 3D fighting for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, while Namco and Bandai (now the same company, thanks to a merger) worked together on the card battle game Tekken Card Challenge for WonderSwan in 1999.

If it's a new game great, I may get a PSP again just for that, if it's a port or remake, shame on them, I want something new, and the lack of originality is precisely why I gave up on PSP already and sold mine. It'll be very interesting to find out what this Tekken game ends up being, but I have a feeling we can expect yet another measly port.

More Tekken is always good in my book. That is, if you don't consider the spinoffs or cameo games like Death By Degrees or Urban Reign. I played Urban Reign during the weekend, and everything just feels wrong.

Oh, and I like Tekken Advance. I play it almost everyday on the train. Not as good as the console Tekkens, but it satisfies my craving when I'm on the go.

That being said, I think Tekken for PSP is very promising and I might consider getting a PSP if the game is really good.

I hope they won't do a port, but a whole new game especially designed for the psp...with extra fighters etc.
But how about a Collection of the PSX-Tekkens on one UMD for the PSP...i would love to play Tekken 1-3 on it.

I have a feeling that this will just be a port. Maybe a port of Dark Ressurection? But anyways, I hope Namco puts in infrastructure support for that little online tekken match. If they do that, I'm sold.

last month in london, the arcade show ATEI, a namco rep there from usa, told me an someothers that tekken 5 DR (dark resurection) will ONLY becoming out on PSP in 8 months time!

it will not be coming out on ps2 as he said this hurts the arcade market

(kinda like what sega did with Virtua Fighter: Final Tuned, arcade ONLY)

but i still think T5 DR will hit ps3

I am so sick of the sheep, complaining about the lack of originality on the PSP, the PSP is a great system, so what if it doesn't have original games, it's a problem that can be fixed.

hooray tekken is being put on the PSP, I'll bet it'll be a port, and it just might be used to unlcok stuff in Tekken for the ps3 (I have no idea if this is true, but it would be a cool feature for the game). Maybe now Namco will make a Soul Calibur game for the PSP.

Yawn... big woopty doo. Tekken games are getting more played out as they continue the series. If Virtua Fighters 4 Final Tune ever comes out on PSP then I can see plenty of attention of the PSP I have here that's gathering dust. Still can't believe the only decent game I could find is Lumines. Luckily being in Japan I can get RPGs that are on the way. Waiting for that Crisis Core, Suikoden, and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. If only there's more quality games like DS. They seem so focus on UMD format movies. Actually it seems like Sony only really shoved PSP out to gain a new foothold and dominance with this UMD format. *goes back to play the fresh DS titles till PSP gets better software*

Heavy, I was waiting for this. At the start of the PSP era, i was hoping for 4 games to be released, metal gear solid, final fantasy , tekken and timesplitters.

    BUT........

The PSP D-Pad is really crap for fighting games especially for tekken and street fighter? what you reckon

LOL,TEKKEN,B R A V O!!!,SONY,now you can have a good fighting game, too bad it wont make an impact for anyone to buy a psp,or like i call it tne .......... PLAYSTATIONPORTER,ok eough if GTA LC couldnt make an IMPACT for the psp, neither will this game, lol,MKDS,and AC:WW,did way better than the GTALC game,so dont say ok it did, because it is not a seller,if i wanted to play in LIBERTY CITY,i would just play GTA3,which i think is the best games out of all of them, also i heard there was releasing Streeet Fighter Ex Plus Alhpa for the DS,lol i wonder if Wi-Fi will be used, which if the online feature isnt put into TEKKEN,then its really a dead fish in the water
