Tekken coming to PSP
Namco is bringing the King of Iron Fist tournament to Sony's portable, details to be unveiled next week.
According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Namco is currently developing a Tekken title for release on Sony's PSP. It isn't known whether the game will be a new installment of the series or a port from the arcades. Details are set to be revealed next week.
While not developed by Sony, the Tekken series has been largely exclusive to that company's consoles. The first three Tekken arcade games were ported exclusively to the PlayStation, with the PlayStation 2 being the sole home to ports of Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 4, and Tekken 5. A port of the Tekken 5 arcade upgrade, Dark Resurrection, has yet to be announced for any system.
The next Tekken installment set for home consoles is the series' debut on the PlayStation 3. No details or even a name for that project have been announced, but it was included in Sony's reel of PS3 trailers at the system's unveiling during last year's Electronics Entertainment Expo.
While Tekken has been a Sony exclusive on the home front, the series has twice ventured onto other company's portable machines. Tekken Advance approximated 3D fighting for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, while Namco and Bandai (now the same company, thanks to a merger) worked together on the card battle game Tekken Card Challenge for WonderSwan in 1999.
