Codemasters nabs former SCEE biggie

Chris Deering, who put Sony on the Euro map in 1995, will join Brit-based publisher's executive ranks.

One of the European game industry's big names resurfaced today. Chris Deering, the former president of Sony Europe, Consumer Electronics Division (the division that supports all PlayStation-related business in Europe), has joined the board of management of Codemasters. He will assume the title of non-executive chairman.

Deering was part of the founding team that launched Sony's European PlayStation division in 1995. He retired from the Sony organization last December.

Deering's history in the game industry includes having won the Interactive Industry Award from BAFTA (the British Association of Film and Television Arts) and having been recently elected chairman of the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival.

In addition to the management news, the publisher said today that venture-cap firm Benchmark Capital Europe has increased that firm's stake in Codemasters from 40 to 70 percent.

I remember reading an interview with him while he was still with Sony. He is very passionate about games, and he adores creativity.

For people who make millions out of games, this is news. The fact that a lil' kiddie with a GBA like urself thinks it is "dry" is pointless.
