Tiger Woods to play another six with EA
Electronic Arts ropes in recognizable golfer for half a dozen more years of Tiger Woods PGA Tour games.
Tiger Woods is currently the number-one-ranked golfer in the world but is only fourth on the list for money earned so far in 2006. Thirty-three days into the year, the 30-year old hasn't even amassed 1 million dollars yet. But don't pull out your checkbooks. Woods also happens to be one of the most recognizable athletes in the world and makes a killing off of endorsements. Nike, American Express, Buick, and others all keep his wallet overflowing.
Another company financially linked to Woods is game publisher Electronic Arts, which puts out the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games for almost every console. During today's company earnings report, EA revealed that it has no plans to let this Tiger loose. The publisher announced that it has signed Woods to six more years of using the golfer's name and likeness in its series of links games. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
EA didn't have to acquire the exclusive rights to the PGA Tour to dominate the golf game market. The game is routinely the best-selling golf game each year, far outdriving its competitors. The most recent addition to the franchise is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, which was released on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PSP, PC, and Xbox 360 late last year.
