Uwe Boll gets Razzie nod

Infamous director of game-based films gets a Golden Raspberry nomination for Worst Director, thanks to Alone in the Dark.

Each February, the film industry honors its best and brightest by unveiling the nominations for the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars. Around the same time, the worst films of the year are nominated for the Golden Raspberry Awards, otherwise known as the Razzies.

One of this year's nominees is infamous for his critically lambasted film adaptations of games. For his 2005 thriller Alone in the Dark, based on the horror-action series, German director Uwe Boll garnered a Worst Director nomination. His competition in the category includes: John Asher (Dirty Love), Jay Chandrasekhar (The Dukes of Hazzard), Nora Ephron (Bewitched), and Lawrence Gutterman (Son of the Mask).

But even if Boll doesn't get the not-so-coveted award on Saturday, March 4, he will likely have another chance next year. His latest game-to-film project, BloodRayne, was poorly received by critics and audiences last month.

Boll is currently filming his big-screen take on Dungeon Siege, titled In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, starring Burt Reynolds and Matthew Lillard. He also owns the film rights to the Far Cry franchise.

Why is he smiling? He has won millions of awards for how horrible he is, so what is this bulls***?

I can only hope that Uwe Boll is killed in a fiery car crash so I can stop hearing about his disgustingly terrible "films". Seriously though, who the hell names their kid Uwe? His parents were either intoxicated or just simply as retarded as he is.

He owns the filming rights to Far cry? He will probably sell the rights to someone else who will make an even worse movie.

I recently watched Bloodrayne and it was every bit as awful as everybody told me it was. This guy needs to be banned from not just directing films but having anything to do with the production of films.

Maybe the European court of human rights could help us out by banning him under human rights laws!

The folks in charge the Razzies should go ahead and give Uwe Boll the lifetime achevement award for worst director ever, thus placeing Ed Wood higher on the scale as a direct result.

I mean really, Ed Wood at least had an idea what he was doing, and he loved doing what he was doing, so we have to place Ed way above Uwe just for that alone.

Tim Burton's not gonna do a tribute film to Uwe Boll.

Why, oh god why do they let this guy get film rights? He's systematically destroyed every game he's placed his hand on... apparently he even owns the rights to the Hunter: The Reckoning games... But now FarCry? Someone, please, knock some sense into this guy...

I swear, if this guy gets anywhere near MGS, LOK, or DMC, I am gonna hunt him down and choke him with a role of film. He does NOT have the right to ruin excellent game franchises with these mediocre movies. Wait. Mediocre is too good of a word. How about horrendous? Abyssmal? Atrocious? Piss Poor? Pick what you wish. Bottom line--this guys sucks at what he is trying to do.

Well arjnav, I think he loves the notriety of it all, he knows people hates his movies, but he's gonna keep making them as long as people keep talking about them. As someone once said, "There's no such thing as bad publicity". I honestly think we're giving him more credit than he deserves by even spending so much time trashtalking him. The best thing to do is just ignore him, once he realises no one gives a f*** what he does, he's gonna realise he's not gonna get anymore publicity and he'll disappear by himself.

PS: Here's to hoping the Silent Hill movie KICKS ASS!!

Uwe Boll is not really just a hack director with more ambition than talent, but actually very cunning con-artist. When his movies loose money, he gets payed money by the German Government to recoup his losses at the taxpayers' expense, thanks to a dandy loophole he discovered and is exploiting. He's actually a lot more clever than we give him credit for, the evil bas****.

He owns the rights to Far Cry? Now there is NO chance for a good Far Cry movie. How does this guy get work? Who pays this guy to make movies? I can't believe, with all of the talented directors out there, that this guy has a job.

Where does this guy get the money to buy licenses and make movies, no one ever goes to see his crap anyway! I'm with Fallout_red here, I have high hopes for Silent Hill and Halo, and Uwe Boll needs to find another career before the gaming public finds one for him.

  • Fallout_red

I hope Silent Hill movie directed by "Christophe Gans" does great, so people can see that not all game-based movies are CraPP and more good filmmakers turn to game-based (Like Peter with Halo). (Why they dont just shoot Boll in the head so world can see peace?)

I like Uwe, he's a great director. Whatever people say he's still great, filming cool games. But I admit that I have to avoid watching any of his movies to think this way.

There was even talk that he got the coveted MGS license. Which i hope to be completely untrue. from what i heard/read he's at least writing a script or take on the story for a movie. If Hideo Kojima, lets that piece of trash go anywhere near the MGS franchise, i'll never buy another MGS thing again, and will boycott it to others as well. Bad directors shouldn't be allowed near good or possibly good stories/ideas/game licenses. Even Paul Anderson did alright with the first MK movie, and the first RE movie wasn't bad(especially since i thought of it as a prequel to the game). but then he went and made Resident evil 2 and Alien Vs. Predator whether he directed them or not., that became SHAT!!! and now from what i just found out, he's also got the Castlevania rights.......WHAT IS WITH CRAPPY WRITER?DIRECTORS GETTING GOOD STUFF TO MAKE CRAPPY?!?!?!

This guy is the anti-Christ. Seriously. Think about it: He keeps making films after his previous one fails where if it were any other director they would have quit a long time ago or have been black balled from the director's association. He keeps snagging high profile actors to STAR in his bastardizations. How? It's got to be a form of brainwashing or mind control. Ben Kingsley. C'mon, Ben. I realize times get tough even for Hollywood stars but to resort to being in a Uwe Boll film? EVERY film of his has bombed. Now why would high profile actors WILLINGLY want to appear in a certified flop? You would think they wouldn't want to appear DEAD in one of his films let alone caught playing a major role.

What's even funnier he had the nerve to critcize the makers of "Underworld" during an interview of his newly release "BloodRayne about how poorly the movie (Underworld)was made. I don't know about you guys but I thought the original "Underworld" and "Underworld : Evolution" was 10 times better than any movie he made.
