RE4 $20 on GC, coming to PC?

GameSpot's Game of the Year for 2005 now only $20 on GameCube; PC version possibly one foot out of the grave.

Aside from a lifetime of nightmares, there's no longer any reason not to try out Resident Evil 4 for the GameCube. Capcom today announced that the game has achieved Player's Choice status for Nintendo's console, meaning it will be repackaged with a new price tag of $19.99, down from $39.99. However, the PlayStation 2 version of the game remains priced at $39.99.

The game, which reinvented the zombie-slaying franchise, has been lauded by critics and fans alike. Though it was released in January 2005, it still grabbed several Game of the Year awards for last year, including GameSpot's editors' and readers' choice awards.

The game sees secret agent Leon Kennedy, a veteran of Resident Evil 2, on a quest to find the US president's missing daughter. His search brings him to a mysterious village in Europe, where a great evil has grabbed hold of the populace. Armed with upgradable pistols, shotguns, and rifles, Leon takes on all manner of beasts to fulfill his mission.

Though Resident Evil 4 spent a good part of 2005 as a GameCube exclusive, it found new residency on the PlayStation 2 in October. Now it appears that the game may be infecting another platform, the PC.

According to retail site Play.com, Resident Evil 4 for the PC is scheduled to hit Europe in late March. It wouldn't be the first time PCs have faced Capcom's fears--Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis have all found their way onto the PC. US Capcom representatives told GameSpot that no official announcement has been made.

Resident Evil 4 is rated M for Mature. To see why it earned GameSpot's GOTY award, read Greg Kasavin's breakdown of the game.

what does capcom have to worry about, they are doing a really good job on the consoles and why do they want to "revive" already good games on the pc, they should try out reviving the games that really need reviving like dino crisis 3, i am a fan of capcom but i think this move might be a step back for the good games.

    To Rimsa_Laded

The first one came to PC like 3 or 4 years after the PS release. It really was awesome becuase it was pixelated like the PS one was. I wish I still had it.

But, I bought the remake on the game cube, and that is much better anyway.

reallaughingman you're a dumbass. Look at its' sales o the cube, they were fairly decent and even better than the ps2 sales. This is going to be a crappy port to pc, because even though a mouse offers better aiming controls, it changes the way games are played and how gameplay flows. Unless they put a speed cap on the pc's aiming, it's going to totally change the game and turn it into a crappy shooting gallery with no true horror atmosphere.

PC version won't be a graphical trend-settter as it was on the consoles but it would be nice if Capcom threw in some special extras and the mini-game "Separate Ways" and better controls if they want us PC gamers to be the least interested. They owe it to us since they parted with us for such a long time.

They wont update the base models they will just include new things like shadows HDR at least if they are not lazy and it probably wont come to xbox or 360 cause RES 5 should come out within 5 months which will be on xbox first out of any console.

no crap it would fall to 20 bucks it wasnt selling on the cube. The reason for that is hardly anyone owns a cube. It will more than double the cube sales on the ps2. garranteed!

RE4 ON PC ..... I AM DYING OUTTA HAppiness

  • Genexi2

    Posted Jan 31, 2006 3:30 pm PT

Long as they dont do a half-a**ed PC port other companies (I'm looking at you Konami) churn out I'll be fine with RE4 on the PC...that and them making the aiming device a little less steady to keep the difficulty level intact due to the high-level of aiming precision the mouse offers over analogue sticks.

Try to suck as much money out of RE4 as possible, smart cause all the other RE games were terrible.

Pretty cool, if this PC version comes with even more content than both version out already combined, it looks like I'll be on my way to owning 2 copied of RE4.

Halo 2 is NEVER EVER going to come out for the PC and i mean EVER!!!!!!. But RE4 for the pc i say thats a slim chance as well.

  • Natdaddy

    Posted Jan 31, 2006 1:34 pm PT

To the guy who talked smack on how bad the halo port to pc was, can you explain? Minus multiplayer the controls made the game better than it ever was on xbox....slim chance but im probably not going to play 2 till it comes to pc.

Wow, $20 for the Gamecube version of RE4. If there's anyone that has a GC and wanted it, but hasn't purchased it yet, I would imagine the floodgates would open now.

Why are PC gamers having to wait more than a year after release to get a version? Where's the sense in that? Don't even bother Capcom....

  • wytefang

    Posted Jan 31, 2006 1:25 pm PT

Yawn...I have at least five way better games that I still need to play on my PC, RE4 won't be one of them. It was vastly over-rated.

  • PutU2REM

    Posted Jan 31, 2006 12:31 pm PT

Oh, yeah, there's no WAY it's going to be emulated. Not only would that bring most systems to their knees, but it would be harder to do. Porting code can be pretty easy Theoretically speaking, it should often consist of no more than checking a box in the compiler. It never is that way, of course, and the Gamecube doesn't exactly use DirectX, but still ....
