Itagaki serving up DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2 next

Designer confirms Team Ninja's next project is the jiggle-fest sequel, hints Ninja Gaiden 2 won't be coming anytime soon.

In the latest issue of Famitsu Xbox 360, Dead or Alive series producer Tomonobu Itagaki commented about Dead or Alive 4's numerous delays for the first time.

While it's rare for Itagaki to make an apology, he told the magazine he feels sorry for the last-minute postponements of the well-reviewed fighter. Itagaki said that he never presumed to think that his games would affect the sales of a console. Now, though, he admits that the DOA4 delay caused major problems for the Xbox 360's launch in Japan. Nonetheless, he decided that he didn't want to release the game in an unpolished form and cause disappointment, as several 360 launch titles did in North America.

Despite DOA4's extended development, Itagaki confirms that there still are a few problems with playing the game on Xbox Live, and Team Ninja is working hard to fix the issues. He told the magazine that currently his team is having problems figuring out whether it's Xbox Live or the game itself that's causing the issues. He said the first update is scheduled for mid-February. Aside from bug fixes, it will also feature some minor changes to the game's interface.

Itagaki also told Famitsu Xbox 360 that plans to release new outfits for DO4 characters via Xbox Live Marketplace have been put off due to budget and staffing issues. However, Itagaki did say that fans and Team Ninja members had expressed interest in new costumes--and that if such costumes are ever made, they would not be free.

In the interview, Itagaki also confirmed that his next Xbox 360 release will be Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2, the sequel to the risqué 2003 sports game. Itagaki said Team Ninja is already working on the opening and ending scenes for the game, and he is currently implementing some new ideas to the original design. Itagaki avoided commenting on a release period.

After DOAXBV2, Itagaki say he will release an "action game." However, he hinted that the title in question won't be a sequel to Ninja Gaiden, which means it will either be Project Progressive, Dead or Alive Code: Cronus, or another title. He says the keyword for the game will be "interactivity," which will also go for the next Ninja Gaiden. He did not elaborate.

    and so on...

    Why would they make a sequel to a sad excuse for a game before Ninja Gaiden 2?

    That's pretty dumb, but I can see how this series gets more sales than NG.

    japanese sales arent doing bad because of a small game lineup, its because most of them are waiting for PS3 and revolution (both could have a weaker game lineup and still have better sales there). its just how it is. DOA is awsome stuff, if u havent tried it then TRY IT

    I don't believe DOA4 not being at launch was a big issue at all. Now that the game is out in Japan Xbox 360 still isn't selling any better.

    DUdes lighten up!....didnt expect much more than some volleyball game on the first one and was it a surprise! gameplay could be better, but check out the STUFF...Girls who have likings, dislikings...attitudes and you get to know them, lure them to join your team (or put something on they wouldnt)... ; )....fun.

    That first DOA volleyball game was the best video game rental choice I ever made. Oh, yes, that was the weekend of the virtual girls... then again, I also rented Leisure Suit Larry... (I'm not sure I should have admitted that).

    i think that Igataki's going to work on DOAXBV2 first because the basic engine and character models are already built. i think his strategy is to get that out of the way first while his team is still in "DOA mode" and then devote his entire team to NG2, or whatever the next porject is once they've expended the DOA engine. IMO

    I just hope they put some gameplay in this one. The last version had very pretty girls, but the game play kept me interested for all of 30 minutes.

    Oh well. I guess that's what I get for buying a tech demo.

    Itagaki is a crazy man. Ninja Gaiden is easily one of the best games of this console generation. Not to mention probably one of my most favorite games ever. To see him make DOA: Volleyball makes my heart hurt.

    first one was fun for about 3 days....then the one (or was it two?) button interface got old.

    man this pisses me off. i could care less about beach volleyball, and if i really wanted to look at boobs, i'd watch a porno. they should be all over gaiden in my opinion. there's plenty to keep me busy until the day that releases, but maan, putting that on the backburner in favor of xtreme beach volleyball, give me a break

    Out of all the X-box games Ninja Gaiden stands tall (with the likes of KOTOR 1&2, Jade Empires, etc). Yet Tecmo is delaying Ninja Gaiden for this load of crap. Even for someone in Japan like me will still see this as a waste except for those hentai non-gamers. Well if X360 wants a chance they should release NInja Gaiden before this IMO. In all seriousness X360 is not looking too hot here at the moment except for a few headturning X360 dedicated comments by a few big names (Capcom, Konami, etc) here and there in Famitsu mags. Too bad for all the fanboys but good for the competition which hopefully will push good quality stuff out on all the systems. This unfortunately doesn't appear to be a contributing factor in quality gaming...

    Why is Itagaki making this instead of Ninja Gaiden 2? The answer is simple: a big, complicated game like Ninja Gaiden 2 wouldn't leave him with enough free time to write any erotic fanfiction!
