Score like Kobe, get on NBA.com

Official Web site of the NBA challenges gamers to match Laker guard's historic output on virtual hardcourt.

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers recently proved himself to be one of the most dominant offensive basketball players in history. Last Sunday, the shooting guard scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, second most in NBA history after Wilt Chamberlain's 100 points in 1962 against the New York Knickerbockers.

Now, NBA.com is asking gamers to replicate Bryant's feat in a basketball video game. The task is simple: Play NBA Live 06, NBA 2K6, or NBA 06 for the Xbox, Xbox 360, or PlayStation 2, and try to score as many points as you can with number 8 in the purple and gold.

The only restrictions are that quarters can be no longer than eight minutes (NBA regulation is 12 minutes), and the difficulty level should be set to at least one setting above the easiest level.

Provide screenshots of Bryant in action and a box score of the final stats as well as various tidbits about the game, and the legendary performance may be featured on NBA.com.

Figure out which button is shoot and get going. For more information, check out the rules at NBA.com.

It's a shame Bill Lambier's isn't listed, I could always score 100 points easy in that one...

For one, Kobe has taken the "biggest ball hog in the league" title away from Allen Iverson. Two, Kobe isn't MVP. Three, Shaq won finals MVP every time they went to the finals and won, so obviously he is the better player. A couple more things... Chauncy Billups for MVP is just dumb. Everyone always preaches how the Pistons are a true TEAM, so why would he win MVP? He isn't even their most valuable player, in my opinion. I think that goes to Ben Wallace. He's doing all of the dirty work and covering up for Billups slow foot speed on defense. All Billups has to do is sit back and shoot 3's and hit Hamilton coming off screens(set by Ben Wallace) and he gets all the glory. In my opinion, Duncan should be at the top of the list. He hasn't missed a game the entire year, if I'm not mistaken. He also makes everything possible for players like Parker and Ginobili to get in the lane every time because so much attention is diverted to him. He gets wide open shots for players like Bowen who have no real offensive skills. He's also their defensive anchor, and the best low post defender in the league. I don't know what else you want from an MVP. Nash is great for making his teammates better on the offensive end, but where is he on defense? MIA... lol.

Well computer game compared to a real life NBA game is like comparing apples and oranges. Sure their both fruits but there totally different textures and colours.

I managed to create a model player of myself (overall rating 65) on NBA live 06 an im 5'10 and cant touch the ring yet I managed by some fluke to get to Golden State to the finals Indiana and score 69 points with 18 being 3pts. In reality there is no way I could do it but I bet if I used say S.Nash or l.James I could easily beat that.

No matter how many points Kobe can score against teams that can't defend, put him in the finals with powerhouse Shaq and he gets swept 4-0 by the Pistons.

All I can say Great individual achievment for Kobe, Too bad its a team game. Score all you want kobe and get your scoring title but you just might not see the playoffs agian this year if you continue this ball hogging streak. If anybody thinks Kobe should be MVP you are on crack. This year it is going to be between Billups and Nash. Those are players that are more valuable than players like Kobe. Especially with Billups team with only 5 losses and halfway through the season and Nash's team at the top 5 with new players and Amare out. Beat that KOBE. We will all remember kobe's 81 points that didnt make the playoffs.

if you didnt see the game then you should be aware that the rest of the team sucks and they were losing until Kobe got angry and decided to take over. Kobe is the man, and this was an amazing performance that was necessary to win the game. The rest of his team had 41 points, he outscored all 5 raptor starters 81-80

hahaha obviously they don't even play these videogames to realize how easy that is to score that many points with 8 minute quarters. even on the hardest difficulty it'd be fairly easy for a skilled player to pull off.

One difficulty level above easy with eight minute quarters? I shudder to think what players could accomplish, because on live, I could score 60 points easy with Kobe in a game with five minute quarters, and that was while makign sure he got 10+ assists to boot. Assumign the game is set to the fastest speed, I'm willing to bet someone could break 200 with Kobe, unless he's careless and fouls him out.
