Konami preps Metal Gear retrospective

Subsistence preorder bonus Metal Gear Saga Volume 1 includes series recap, new interviews, trailers, and more.

Konami took the occasion of its press event in San Francisco today to announce the Metal Gear Saga Volume 1 DVD, a preorder bonus for gamers who reserve the upcoming PlayStation 2 title Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.

Metal Gear Saga will feature a half-hour, documentary-style recounting of the series' narrative, produced by series creator Hideo Kojima and directed by Ryan Payton. The disc will also have trailers for the latest batch of Metal Gear games and a series of interviews with Kojima himself, where he talks about a range of topics from the NES game Snake's Revenge (which is mysteriously absent from the Metal Gear Saga chronology) to the series' PlayStation 3 debut in Metal Gear Solid 4.

The whole package will come with a foil-embossed cover and artwork by Yoji Shinkawa and should be available for gamers who preorder Subsistence at North American retailers starting in mid-February. For more information on Subsistence, check out GameSpot's latest preview.

All sounds good. Now I hope this comes with the European Version. Also, since this is volume 1, there must at least be a Volume 2

Cool, but... only 30 minutes? That's barely enough to skim over simple MGS plot points, let alone include all the miscellaneous interviews and whatnot. It sounds like a cool little thing, but probably more fluff and hype than real substance. I'd rather get the MGS3 standalone cinematic disc thing than this "MG Saga" marketing thing. Sigh.

It isn't going to be cheap, because Mr.Kojima isn't a poor man and he makes alot of money over us. Damn what a bastard!

Sounds good, but I'm not going to run out and buy it. You can always pick these "special" editions later on and for cheaper. Look at "Halo 2". That was a debacle. I stood in line for the big whoopty doo midnight sale for the supposed "limited edition" and now when I go out I find used copies. It's not worth it.

Does anyone know which stores actually get the bonus? coz I pre-ordered POP3 two thrones just to get the soundtrack, and guess what... my EB games didn't even know about a soundtrack existing. I don't wanna pre-order something again that will not have the bonus.

I like it when gaming companies have games that show the history of a series. It's fun to see how things have changed over time.

If I remember Mr. Sinclair.... SNAKE'S REVENGE is omitted from the MGS storyline since it is a side story, not officially associated with the core storyline (as are the AC!D games).

MGS3
MG
MG2: Solid Snake
MGS/Twin Snakes
MGS 2
MGS4 *drool*

Snake's Revenge isn't included cause Kojima doesn't consider it Canon. He had nothing to do with it. It was a completely western production that he feels inferior.

@Donkeljohn: FYI, snake's revenge is made by american developers without the supervision of hideo kojima. i played it through the emulator and it sucked bad.
back to the topic: now that's great. too bad i can't pre-order subsistence since i don't live in america.
