2K Games HQ scorched in fire

200 firefighters respond to "nasty" blaze at Prada store below publisher's offices.

Millions of gamers have spent many frustrating hours trying to beat the final level of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which has game hero CJ fighting his way through a burning building. In an ironic twist of fate, the building that houses Rockstar's corporate sibling, 2K Games, was ravaged by fire over the weekend. According to the New York Post and other outlets, the multistory building at 575 Broadway, where 2K Games' offices are located, was "gutted" by a five-alarm inferno on Saturday night. FDNY spokesman Jim Long told the Post that it took 198 firefighters and 44 trucks to put out the blaze. "It's pretty nasty," he said. The extent of damages to the 2K offices was unclear as of press time.

wait its the 2k branch I never knew they worked for Rockstar and take two. I also realized this probably isn't some right wing nut's fault. As dumb as people like Jack Thompson they would probably at least taken two seconds and realised that the building the would burn makes sports games. If they wanted to do real damage then they would burn the rockstar building not 2k sports. Now if another game developer place is destroyed everyone will get really suspicous and Thompson and friends will lose some support.

I'm really sorry for their work - finacial issues are for sure backed up by the insurances - but it's allways sad. Anyway. kudos for them, because I really like their games. Loved Top Spin, can't wait for the 2nd for X360.

2K doesn't work on the GTA games, they only make the sports games like Amped 3 and the 2K basketball and baseball games. This probably means a serious delay on their sports games this year.

I know this isnt the case, but wouldnt it be ironic if tomorrow you heard: JACK THOMPSON ARRESTED FOR STARTING PRADA/2K FIRE... Jack Thompson was arrested today for arson to the 575 Broadway Building that houses game publisher 2K. In an open letter statement to media outlets Thompson, who will represent himself in the case, said "I am a Christian man, and I have a bar licence. But I maturbated to games (if you could use a dictionary you would know that this isnt necessarily, but probably is, a sexual term). I too escaped. I couldn't figure out how to dial 911 for help to my masturbatory activity, so i set the building on fire. It is not my fault, it is the fault of the gamers, the developers, and the publishers. I couldn't help my self as I finished my copy of GTA:San Andreas, and needed to burn something down, because the little aliens and subliminal messages, as well as Hot Coffee, that were put into the game told me to do so. It is not my fault, it is this 'culture of death's' fault." ---------------------------------------------------- Like I said, I know this isnt what happen, but wouldnt it be ironic if this did? And for the record, this is just satire and parady.

My, my, I see a LOT of tin-foil hats here...

I mean seriously, this likely isn;t the work of any figure in the gaming industry, or even Jack Thompson. After all, remember that story notes that the fire started in a Prada outlet, NOT in the offices themselves.

As for its impacts, the building, insofar as I know, housed nothing in regards to development. The comments regarding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion are the funniest, given that 2K games doesn't have any control or hand in the development at all to begin with, and they are merely- co-publishing the game with Bethesda Softworks themselves.

It's a good thing that no one was harmed; the offices were insured to some degree, that could be gauranteed, and with everyone fine, they can pick right back up where they left off at some other location. Likely one less prone to fires.
