Empire at War demo blasting onto GameSpot

Anticipated Star Wars-themed PC RTS wages war next week; single-player sampling features five tutorials, one galactic conquest.

In space, no one can hear you scream--but that won't stop Star Wars fans from whooping and hollering next week. On Wednesday, January 18 at 9 a.m. PST, GameSpot will premiere the single-player demo of Star Wars: Empire at War for the PC. The full version will hit retail stores on February 16.

The demo will feature five tutorials that lay down the game mechanics for Empire at War, as well as one galactic conquest mode map to put what gamers have learned to test. A sample of recognizable units will be included in the demo, with the full roster being available next month in the retail version.

In the full version, gamers will be able to play on the side of the Rebellion or Empire, commanding troops in order to topple Darth Vader's evil regime or rule the universe with an iron fist. In addition to stormtroopers, Star Destroyers, and X-Wings, players will deploy some of the films' popular heroes and villains, such as Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo.

Star Wars: Empire at War is being developed by Petroglyph and will be published by LucasArts. More information on the demo is available on GameSpot's Empire at War demo page. For more details on the full game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I'd just like to say that Battlefront sucks. This game looks like it will be pretty sweet. I wonder if it will sell well given the fact that the majority of gamers have their heads stuck up their a**es, How much longer are these people going to be raving on about Battlefront and Halo, seriously?

    Why?

Because C&C games were THE ones that defined RTS, they predated StarCraft and WarCraft.

Not everyone is on a psuedo-RTS like Battlefront II and graphics means NOTHING if gameplay its not to par.

Haven't played RTS games for so long time now, but maybe that one will distract me from roleplaying for a while. Let's wait the reviews.

LucasArts' current leaderships SUCKS but maybe this game got lucky and they didn't rush it out the window in a crap stage. They already rushed and ruined the Jedi Knight and Knights of the Old Republic series into their death.

I hope it's good. Considering it's from former Command & Conquer members hopefully it's good.

However, given the fact that it's a licensed game, Lucasarts probably limited the amount of humor in the unit sound clips considerably.

Personally, I still think of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge as the pinnacle of the genre. Too bad they don't run on XP.

In space nobody can hear you scream, except they could hear me because I had a mic on inside my helmet, so they were like "Yo, why you screaming?" and I was like "Dunno, lol". Weird.
