Rainbow Six Critical Hour announced

Ubisoft's squad-based shooter series gets repackaged with classic, new missions for PlayStation 2, Xbox.

Tom Clancy, well known for being a prolific political- and military-thriller writer, is quickly making a name for himself as one of gaming's most prolific minds. The author has lent his name and expertise to three of Ubisoft's most popular franchises--Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Splinter Cell.

The latest addition to one of the Tom Clancy series is Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Critical Hour for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, just announced by Ubisoft. Critical Hour brings several of the squad-based shooter's past moments together with new material for a defining Rainbow Six experience.

Eight single-player maps, chosen by fans, will be reworked with current technology and will appear alongside a brand-new seven-mission, single-player campaign. There will also be 18 multiplayer levels for online play.

To promote realism, the gameplay has been slowed down to encourage a more strategic approach to counterterrorism, and several factors, including injury status and body position, effect weapon accuracy. More than 20 weapons and high-tech gadgets are included in the game, and the maps will take gamers to Idaho, Mexico City, Siberia, and more.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Critical Hour is priced at $29.99 and has not yet been rated.

I love the old R6 games (Raven Shield's still on my PC), but this disturbs me. Is repackaging the old stuff with a little new going to become standard? Pardon me, but I blame it on having to aim for the console market, who tend to have a shorter attention span and less discriminating taste (not all, mind, just some, as y'all prove). Check the top console sellers for proof. (Madden? Episode 3!? Pokemon!?! WTF!!!) I'm in my early twenties and I'm already feeling like a crotchety old man. Ah, the good old days, where gamers were hardcore, consoles were for wusses, and buying a new game meant three days of tinkering "config.sys" just to get the @#%#! thing working.

They should have just made this content able to buy over Xbox Live for Lock Down instead of making a new game

After the pile of crap that was Rainbow Six Lockdown, I'll wait to see some reviews on this game before I buy it.... although the $30 price tag is tempting.

It seems a little premature to call the XB and PS2 "dying". Both systems still sell pretty well and have great stuff coming for them.

They should bring it to the 360 with updated graphics. That what they should do. Why would they bring it for two dying systems. 360 and the fututre ps3 lets see it on that!

Looks good but will they go back to the old way of having multiple squads? One can hope...

Lock Down wasn't that bad, still fun. Critical Hour is gonna be around $30, which is a very sweet deal, plus for current-gen consoles.

This sounds really great I think that is a good idea to make the levels seem more real.

I am all for waiting as long as in the game it has a more life like feel.
I can't wait to get my hands on it to play it.
