Project Gotham 3 available for test drive

Second of three Microsoft-published Xbox 360 launch titles gets a 1.25GB demo available from Xbox Live Marketplace.

The Xbox Live Marketplace shifted into high gear yesterday with the release of a downloadable demo for Bizarre Creations' Project Gotham Racing 3.

Weighing in at a beefy 1.25GB, the free trial version of the highly rated driving sim gives gamers a taste of speed in two events (a street race and a time trial) that wind through the streets of Tokyo. The demo also gives players the luxury of getting behind the wheels of six cars, including a Ferrari F430, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, and a Lamborghini Murcielago 6.2. The demo version features no playability over Xbox Live or access to race replays.

PGR3 joins Kameo: Elements of Power as Microsoft-published launch games with demos available through Xbox Live. The third (and perhaps highest-profile) of Microsoft's own launch lineup, Perfect Dark: Zero, has yet to receive the Marketplace demo treatment. Other 360 titles recently receiving the downloadable demo treatment include Fight Night Round 3, Quake 4, and Condemned.

This really IS the best thing to happen to gaming. I downloaded the demo of Kameo and bought the game because of it. Though some reviews haven't been the best, I have had so much fun with this game and don't regret purchasing it. I do wish that the demo of Condemned came out sooner, that game just sucks.

i waited for a bunch of hours for this demo and it was crap. besides the fact that i dont like the game at all, the demo only gives you single player content.

The posters complaining that 360 demos are coming out after the games must not be PC gamers. It is quite common for demos to come out after the full retail game is released.

I love Xbox Live, downloading stuff and awesome gaming rules! I want to see a Burnout Demo!

Microsoft should have done this at the release. They have just rushed the release of the console. 90% of gamers don`t have it AND THEY ARE RELEASING THE DEMOS AFTER THE COMPLETE GAME RELEASE.

In my opinion, downloadable demos are one of the best things about Live on the 360.

To the GT4 comment. They are COMPLETELY different games. GT4 sucked ass. Im not saying this because I am an anti sony(because i look out for consumers) boy. I am saying this because I loved GT1, GT2, part of GT3 but the handling sucked in GT4. Not to mention if you had High Def you had to have an "auto switching" HDTV, which pretty much wasnt available @ the time of launch. If you didnt have an "auto switching" HDTV, you had to unplug the component cables in the back and switch it to the input that support 1080i(for the menus) and 480p for the games. It was a poorly designed and the only way a car STARTS to handle properly is if you put a wing on it. Great, just what we need more honda's with wings that dont do a damn thing but lift THE FRONT of the car up. Which LOOSES traction. Eh sorry, got off topic.

The demo's are nice but the download times are getting pretty long. I get 1/4 mb per second(250Mbits). To the person that said it takes 5-6 hours, im sorry your broadband sucks so much.

the fact that people can try a game before spending 60 bucks is a great choice to the consumer. Because, for those of you who dont know, you CAN NOT return open NEW games to any retailer, except to exchange for same copy.

Best launch title = Geometry Wars 2(no math involved for those who havent played it).

Just another title that is gonna be great for people that own an Xbox 360. I've played one and two now all I need is the 360 to complete the hat trick.

I find it funny that everyone is going "goo goo" eyed over demos for the 360 since PC demos have been around for so long. Sure, it's new for consoles, but I wouldn't say it's the best thing to happen since sliced bread. Now if it's true that OXM is giving out the actual Final Fantasy XI beta, that's something to get excited about...

  • SoralinkGS

    Posted Jan 10, 2006 9:55 pm PT

no it doesnt kill OXM magazines demo disc.....The first disc has a Full auto demo! and the Febuary disc will have Final Fantasy XI beta....OXM disc will have exclusive demos.....anyways, I dont like PGR.

This is what I like about Xbox Live on the 360, the ability to download demo's.. Just one of those features which makes going online with a gameconsole so much fun and actually usefull..

  • anthony_basic

This just kills OXM discs now that you can download a demo right out of the Box . Pretty clever if you ask me.

I think the best reason to put out those demos are attention. Think about it, they receive a publicity the day the game is out and another one when the demo out!
Also, I never would have bought NFSMW if it wasn't for the demo. It showed me that it wasn't just a port (althought it is!)

As for Demo before the game is done ... not sure. People where glad and amazed at seeing the Fight night R3 demo, but hardcore gamer knew it wasn't the final build and that the framerate would surely be fixed. Take a casual gamer eye, the kind that don't understand the industry and the developement cicle of a game. Try tell him that the game is in it's crunch time and that all the issue will be fixed.

    It's console, not pc...

    But hey! Demos are fun!

Yes Im gonna get one soon as well, but im kinda waiting til some more games come out.Personally I think the best games out now are ......Well i cant name one im excited to get.Now thats my main problem I dont see a game out now that seems new and fun that i cant get on my ps2.Trust me i used to be the biggest graphics whore there was out there always picking up the newest system so i could brag about graphics,But i got older relized that gameplay should be the most important thing and yes 360 has sweet graphics,But im tired of wasting money when the gameplay just isnt there. Now if there was a re4 or a halo,or even a hot roleplayer id be there right now.And no im not a sony fanboy.I always support all the systems.Im just taking a little bit more thought in it this time even though its hard....Fight Night Round 3 sweeet...Oh and I own every system even fm town marty,PC Engine and the very lame 64dd

I agree with Gaara79. Fight Night 3 is the only demo on LIVE that is of a game not out yet. Bust out some Elder Scrolls or Ghost Recon AWF.

Agreed, demos are the greatest thing to come to Live, with Arcade in close second. I'm not even a sim-racing fan, and I'll be downloading this, just to try it out, and because I can. That's not a stab at people without 360s. I just got mine a couple of days ago. I had to buckle under the "I'm sick of waiting" pressure and buy a Core System (why they even made the Core is beyond me) and a hard drive seperately. Anyway, for all of you that don't have a 360 and want one, good luck, and I hope you can join the rest of us soon. Peace out.

Im still waiting for Sony to get a clue and launch downloadable demos for the PSP. Its sad that Sony are so ignorant of what its customers want and allow Microsoft to beat the crap out of them like this.

Still, I was amazed that the PGR3 demo wasn't available at launch seeing as it was a launch title. :-/ Im not complaining though, will be a while until I get a 360 though im definately getting one.
