BloodRayne descends on theaters

Uwe Boll directs Ben Kingsley and Michael Madsen in film adaptation that went unscreened for critics.

The latest offering from notorious director of game-to-film adaptations Uwe Boll has opened in North America. BloodRayne, based on the Nazi-hunting exploits of Majesco's half-vampire vixen (as opposed to her Playboy-posing exploits), is now playing in wide release.

BloodRayne boasts a fair bit of star power compared to Boll's previous efforts, including Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Thunderbirds), Blockbuster Entertainment Award-winner Billy Zane (Titanic, Posse), Michelle Rodriguez (Girlfight, Blue Crush), Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home), and Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Mortal Kombat: Conquest) as the titular bloodsucker.

While Boll's work is often decried by gamers and critics alike, there are preliminary signs of improvement on the part of the oft-maligned director. According to the Internet Movie Database's Bottom 100 ranking system, BloodRayne is only the 42nd worst movie ever made as of press time. Boll's previous game-to-film efforts, Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead, rank as the 38th and 22nd worst movies ever, respectively.

Critical response is limited so far, as the film was not screened for movie reviewers. It opens against the gamer-themed comedy Grandma's Boy (also not screened for critics) and the horror film Hostel.

The movie has been officially declared a complete bomb. It didn't rank as one of the top 12 money makers this weekend. The number 1 movie was "Cassanova" and it only made 4 million dollars. Bloodrayne made even less than that. That pretty much makes the movie a failure. If for some reason you wanted to see the movie you better see it this week because it's not going to be hanging around for too long.

Guys, Uwe Boll doesn't have the Warcraft license, nor is he ever likely to get it. Blizzard are notoriously protective of their licenses, and would probably do a movie in-house if they possibly could.

I've seen countless commercials about it and quite frankly, it looks like another game turned into a movie, which isn't good!

This director is a sellout and anyone who works with him is just looking for a quick buck. Video games are better then movies and shouldn't be made into movies. When they are made into movies, there never anything like the games at all. Sometimes I wander how they got away with using the name? Like Resident Evil, Alone in the dark, Tomb Raider, BloodRayne, ETC.

What did you expect? Of course Uwe Boll 'cough' dips*** is going to have another movie bomb because will he ever come up with a good movie adaptation of a game? Not likely.

Why do people even let Uwe Boll direct a movie of one of their games? I would protest big time. A lot of these games are games I love and he is going to slaughter them all. His movies are so bad i can't bear to look at the games again afterwards.

God, no!!!!!!!!!!! Don't ruin Warcraft!!!!!! Hollywood, me and my brother will direct the movie! Don't let him ruin this movie!!!

If he really wants to make another movie (not that it's a good idea), he should at least find series that have potential (House of the Dead? Alone in the Dark?! Bloodrayne?!?!).

I'm not saying that they are bad series, but

one: They aren't the best storywise and...

two: They just work out better as a game.

... I would not call that much of an improvement.

I went to see the movie for the sake of laughing but I ended up getting crappy looking gore scenes, ridiculously cliche story, and some insanely crappy acting (you can ALMOST TELL that some are reading lines); I couldnt even get a decent laugh out of it. One thing: If you like Softcore Porn, Rayne has full blown sex with a guy in the movie. No joke. Mind you if they had shown the genitalia it wouldve gotten an NC-17 or more, but seriously, its Porn. So basically, its only worth watching if your into that sorta stuff. (Or maybe sneak into it while ur waiting for another film and watch the previews which include Xmen 3 and MI:3, lol).

He must be stopped. He wants to make MGS. Over my dead body is all I can say. Why do people keep hiring this pos to direct game movies? Movie adaptions of games deserve better. I guess they figure they have the right to look crappy because they are games. Sheesh.

this is one of the most vile things ever. I mean Uwe Boll takes games that are good or at least okay and he turns them into a movie that has a faint resemblence to the game and maybe the name is the same too, but come on!! WTF is up with this guy Bloodrayne the game is after the middle ages, and i dont think Rayne was even born back then so he is butchering the game and ruining it for people who like the game. And the worst part is that he doesnt realize what he is doing!!! *sobs*

Anyone know is Doom is any good?

There's a reason why it went unscreened for the critics. Uwe Boll couldn't direct a game-to-film adaptation if his life depended upon it. He must be stopped. I honestly think he makes his games bad on purpose.

Hell i loved "House of the dead". Sure it was a trashy piece of film making but it made me laugh. Heres hoping that BloodRayne dosen't take itself to seriously either.

We should really be upset with companies like Majesco, Ubisoft (Far Cry) Eidos (Hitman) etc. for selling off our favorite game properties for a quick buck.
Especially without taking any precautions regarding the films quality.

I must say that I have never seen Bolls movies, but if there were a Farcry or Warcraft movie I would want them to be as good as the games. From what I have read about peoples reactions to Boll, he is the worst thing to hit Cinema since Yahoo Serious. Anyway, for those interested, here is an article about Boll that has a theory about why he is so terrible. It is a rather intersting read.

Anyone know if Boll is really directing the Warcraft movie? If so, I'll be incredibly pissed (not to mention a little depressed). Bloodrayne is one thing, but Warcraft!!?? That's one of my favorite series that actually has the storyline and characters to make an awesome movie.
