Ubisoft releases Chaos Theory maps

Extra levels for the latest Splinter Cell resurface on Xbox Live four months after botched original release; Xbox 360 owners report compatibility problems.

Roughly four and a half months ago, Ubisoft released two new multiplayer maps for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory over Xbox Live. The only problem was that the downloaded maps didn't work. The company quickly pulled them down with the hopes of putting them back up again soon.

A third of a year and countless Splinter Cell Chaos Theory forum posts bemoaning the missing maps later, the UN Headquarters and Nuclear Plant levels, which make up the conclusion of the cooperative story mode, are finally available. A new versus mode map, Polar Base, is also up.

However, all is not yet peachy, as the official Chaos Theory forums are now buzzing with reports from Xbox 360 owners who are having problems with the game freezing or even refusing to load as a result of downloading the maps. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory was added to Microsoft's official Xbox 360 backward-compatibility list last month.

Ubisoft reps were not immediately available for comment on how the issue would be addressed.

Optimusv2 - "Its just a fact that I know whats in both the 360 and ps3 and the advantages and disadvantages of both and the 360 is definetly the more powerful of the 2 in the areas that are the most important."

Optimusv2 - "Most def a revolution it'll be too cheap to pass up and its stated the revolution will match the 360's graphics card."

I'm sorry, but, by the former statement, it is obvious that you are in no position to make claims on which one is more powerful. "Graphics card"? Give me a break... sub-amateur talk.

    Back on topic.

So, yeah, I guess you could expect these kinds of problems when the backwards compatibility is software-based, instead of hardware-based. That's unfortunate. Not THAT big of a deal, in my opinion, since I rarely ever used that option with my PS2. I buy new systems to play games made for that system.

“90% of the people who bought a 360 bought it for the lackluster games. I am willing to bet you money that none of them knew what true hi def is, because true hi def starts at 1080p not 1080i and it ends with a next-gen DVD drive”

Why does “true Hi def” start at 1080p? Is it because sony say so? In which case 95% of the so claimed sony hi def TV’s are not actually hi def as they only do 1080i and 720p.

I thought they were based in montreal and shanghai. Either way i dont think they have a testing department, or just are not putting money into where it needs to go. But what do they care about the fans were already gave them there money, and we'll just have to wait for double agent. Why dont we all go play PGR3.

I have a Xbox, GC and 360. I sold my PS2 and Jap PSP V1.5 because I didn't like them. I got a 360 on launch day and I love it. I think people shouldn't limit themselves to one console. I will be buying a PS3 and Revolution. I can't play original xbox games on Live using my xbox because of "changes" I made to the console so I have to use my 360. The only xbox games I play on live are Halo 2 and Pro Evo 5 and both work perfectly on my 360 so I'm happy.

Here is a thought. Screw XBOX 360...Let your idiot friends buy them and have them buy controllers so that you can go to their houses and play them for free. And in the meantime upgrade your damn computer because we all know that in 6 months to one year consoles will be outdated. Oh yeah and buy one of those damn XBOX 360 computer controllers if you wanna play XBOX 360 games on your computer. Computer 1 XBOX 360 0 Final.

IT seems like that game was a problem for them to put on the 360, origiannly it wasn't on the reverse compatable list, looks like they upset the sensitive code.

The problem isn't with Ubisoft. The problem is with Microsoft letting itself be forced into trying to make the 360 backwards compatible. Backwards Compatibility is #1 on my "who cares" list with a new console. Trying to emulate the xbox the way they are, they are just asking for problems. I didn't buy my 360 to play xbox games on.

Ubisoft shouldn't bother with extra content for their games.

Most of them are fine in the condition they are when shipped.

While I myself don't really enjoy the Splinter Cell series, it's still good to see that Ubisoft is willing to make a game better for those who already enjoy it.

As for the backwards compatability, Ubisoft just screwed up. Although I blame microsoft for making it hard on themelves to emulate past Xbox games, Ubisoft really should have known to get it right this time, but they just can't seem to.

Not to bash ubisoft because they are the makers of the ultimate stealth experience but the blame falls squarely on thier shoulders this time i think.

Yeah LTM360 i have all the systems as well(including 360) . Each one of them provides sifferent types of games that are great in there own way.I never had even heard of the new maps coming out for chaos theory and im a fan of that series but id like to see how they are. Also its probally true they are putting all there time into double agent which should be coming out soon. That game is going to be amazing.

Hey! I got a great idea; let's all be gamers and talk about GAMES! Not systems. Own all the systems; stop being a jerk and bashing the one you don't own.

/look to my left; sees a Playstation 2, a Nintendo Gamecube, an Xbox, and an Xbox 360.

Hm... seems like a gamer would own them... oh well.

On topic; (im like #2 on the actual matter here) It's kinda dissapointing to see it took this long for the maps to come out; guess work has been going strong on Double Agent.

Thats what I plan to do mikekare, but I hate to see a good product bashed and admittedly I sometimes get dragged into it as well. Its just a fact that I know whats in both the 360 and ps3 and the advantages and disadvantages of both and the 360 is definetly the more powerful of the 2 in the areas that are the most important.

I'll still be getting a ps3 though, because there will be games for the ps3 i can't get for a 360 so i'll definetly end up with a ps3 at one point or another.

Most def a revolution it'll be too cheap to pass up and its stated the revolution will match the 360's graphics card.

I don't have a 360 and I'm not jealous nor "angry" either, due to the fact there were'nt any games that looked good to me that were on the X-Box initially, so big deal to me, not only that, but I did'nt want to give any more of my money to M$. Granted H.A.L.O & H.A.L.O. 2 might be the "greatest games of all time"( I for one, tried out H.A.L.O. at an electronics store, I was'nt impressed by what I saw), so to me, "so what", Counter-Strike..?, Big deal, to me , both are repetitive and unoriginal works. Plus, everyone is entitled to their own oppinion Optimusv2, or would you have everyone limited to just one and one system only with M$ saying "YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS OR DIE" HAHAHAHAHA.....?, M$ is who makes me sick, not the original poster..

  • Optimusv2

    Posted Jan 6, 2006 4:31 pm PT

People like the first poster seriously make me sick... Does it anger you THAT Much that everyone is enjoying their new xbox360s and you don't have one probably because you couldn't afford to buy one?

I've had no problems playing any of my current xbox games half-life 2 being one of em.

I can't wait to laugh when the ps3 finally launches and its not as improved over the 360 as everyone thinks it'll be.

Almost every single original Xbox game does not play how its supposed to play on 360, its just that some are worse than others.

I played through HALO 2 on 360 the other day, and even that froze on me a handful of times as well as some weird glitch on the screen that kept happening over and over...made it look like the screen was cracked or something.
Half Life 2 is a total mess on 360. Fable has some audio issues, etc.
Compatibility on 360 so far is kind of a joke, as an owner I'm sorry to say.

A consumer should not be "burned" just because they purchased the Xbox 360. Ubisoft should have either gotten it right or simply say that it is incompatible with the 360 if there are issues with the downloadable content. This is why there are testers.
