Resident Evil 5 debuting simultaneously on 360, PS3?

Capcom plans to release its latest horror-survival game on two consoles at once, a first for the series.

In an interview published in Xbox360ism (a special edition of Dorimaga), Capcom Research & Development division chief Keiji Inafune said he expects Resident Evil 5 to be released simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 if possible.

"We want to grow the Resident Evil series into a multi-platform franchise, so we hope to release it simultaneously [on the two next-generation consoles]," Inafune told Xbox360ism. "But since we don't know the launch period for the PS3 yet, so it's hard to say [if we can]."

Inafune also revealed that Resident Evil 5 will feature online elements, although he did not elaborate.

In other zombie-related Capcom news, Inafune said that his first project for the Xbox 360, Dead Rising, is slated for release after summer 2006. Inafune explained that the game could be released earlier, but he's taking the time to polish it as much as possible.

Inafune also revealed that Microsoft initially asked Capcom to make an original Xbox 360 title catered toward the taste of the Japanese consumers, but the third-party publisher declined. Inafune stated that Capcom's aim is to release games that will be a global hit, regardless of whether it's for the Xbox 360 or PS3.

Online would be great! Like Splinter Cell online but instead of spies vs soldiers, zombies vs humans. Each could control completely different and be somewhat balanced, I like it.

Who cares about the Revolution anyway, not even Gamespot has given it a selection tab on there website yet. Nintendo’s focus is on kids anyway, why because kids are always being born so every year a whole new group of kids can continue to play the same old Mario crape games while the new teenagers abandon Nintendo as the games don't grow with them & they begin to Swim in the adult pond of Xbox & PS3/PSP. That’s Where your goanna find the Resident Evil games

I agree with what you guys are saying, but it is just annoying that Nintendo is not on the 'CapCom' Launching sheldule. It kinda is frustrating, cause they have been using, well 'focusing' on the Nintendo GameCube for this gen. You would think they would keep doing it, cause of the reverse compatablilite, but then again they haven't really had much information to go on coming from Nintendo. So well there are reasons why they didn't and reasons why they could of done it. It is up to them after all.

Well i really dont see what you mean nothing, Hideo Kojima him self says he is going to be making and Rev exclusive games, Atari has allready said they love what nintendo is doing, plus Ubisoft allready has an FPS being made for the rev, Square-Enix is making a wifi enabled FF CC not exactly what we all wanted but we will probably see more out of them so, dont for get the makers of Killer 7 not capcom they just published it have already praised nintendo as well so if anything Rev will have better 3rd partie support then Gamecube

Wow. It really seems like Nintendo is getting the bad end of everything. I used to be a Nintendo devotee but after hearing nothing from some of the best third party developers for the Revolution it really leaves us gamers no choice but to choose PS3 or XBOX 360.

Nooo lol... Capcom and Square Enix is suppose 2 be only for Sony and Nintendo... X-box has their own stuff like halo... The last thing I want is less competition in the gaming market...

Wow. This a great news for 360 owners. Plus with the online stuff, Xbox will definitely be the front runner in that area. Live owns PS's online stuff. Graphically...PS will probably hold the advantage

Thank you, Mit Man, for trying to reason with people.
Just because Capcom has not announced a Revolution port of RE5 does not mean Capcom hates Revolution.
And there's no actual proof that Revolution isn't powerful enough.

  • Kahones

    Posted Dec 7, 2005 1:09 pm PT

The Gamecube launch of RE4 totally revamped the series and launched it back to huge popularity. There is no way Capcom would just entirely drop Nintendo. To my knowledge there have been no 3rd party developer games announced yet since Nintendo is all about conspiracies, and likes to keep everything about their systems hush-hush until the day before release. Definitly expect to see more Capcom games made for the REV if not RE5.

I hope they release it for Rev. I mean if need be we could still use the shell to play the game. But I guess since Nintendo hasn't said much about the Rev, Capcom might not be willing to say it's coming out for that system too yet

hey i'm just glad capcom is spreading the joy and just just making titles console exclusive. i wonder how the two consoles will fair tho, i know all of the launch games for the 360 used no more than 40% of the 360's power so no doubt it's gonna be a gorgeous game once capcom starts to get used to developing on the system (same goes for PS3).

  • Mit_Man

    Posted Dec 7, 2005 12:38 pm PT

God people. Capcom makes more games than the Resident Evil series. Also, it was always one to go for the more powerful system for the RE series. Gamecube was more powerful than Playstation 2, and while Xbox was more powerful than gamecube, Xbox's popularity in Japan is near zero.

Revolution is not going to be your typical powerhouse console. Most third party companies aren't putting their existing franchises on it because they'd have to change them too much. It really makes no sense to put RE5 on Revolution.

"OH NOEZ DIS MEENS CAPCOM IS ABAONDINING NINTENDO LIKE RARE". First off, to whoever said that, Microsoft bought Rare, moron. Second, Capcom makes more games than RE, and I'm positive Capcom will release new types of games and such on Revolution, as most developers are doing. Expect to see Viewtiful Joe on it too.

    Some people -_-

Oh and whoever said this shows that Revolution is a joke and Nintendo's going bankrupt, you're retarded too. Please place a bet with me so I can easily win. Nintendo is more financially stable than Sony, and would be more stable than Microsoft if Microsoft didn't already have a ton of money (but Nintendo's sure as hell more stable than their Xbox department).

  • Zepyulos

    Posted Dec 7, 2005 12:36 pm PT

Nintendo fans should consider the possibility that Capcom may choose to develop an original Resident Evil title for the Revolution that would take full advantage of the console's features. Not to mention that there's a strong possibility that a port of RE5 might have to be downgraded visually and an unfavorable side-by-side comparison could really hurt.

This does indicate that Nintendo may not be see triple-A ports from other consoles, which could be seen as a good or bad thing, meaning the Revolution will live or die on original content. Companies like EA will continue to port everything they do to every system imaginable, however.

"X-Box is my mortal enemy so... this angers me"
AARGH i am angry. X-box gets a game too! the nerve of capcom! those bastards! What a moron.

I think it would be hard to release a RE game on the revolution since nobody knows when it's coming out, and there might be a controller issue there. I dont think RE5's online would be like outbreak, Capcom probably learned their lesson there. The trailer for this game looks crazy, so you never know, it might just be fun.

    Posted Dec 7, 2005 12:32 pm PT

Resident Evil 5 will only be the greatest game since Resident Evil 4. I say this because I know they'll use the same control scheme that worked so well in 4. If they don't, then they should just stop making games now, because everyone wants their Resdient Evil to play like 4 from now on.

Online...hmm. Could this mean co-op online? Remember in RE0 you used 2 characters simultaneously. This game is perfect for Xbox360. Now that would be cool.

    Posted Dec 7, 2005 12:24 pm PT

RE5 may be for Rev as a secret like a lot of other Rev games, if so it will probably be announced at E3.
You know, thats why nintendo announced the gamecube controller attachment- to make it easier to port games for Rev (you can still use the motion sensors).

HAHAHAHA Revolution is a JOKE. This shows it. Capcom, a regular developer for the Gamecube is not announcing anything for the revolution and giving lots of support to the REAL consoles. This is the first step to a bankrupt nintendo.
