DS Animal Crossing shipping

Nintendo's semi-surreal life sim gets wireless, tactile in new handheld edition.

Gamers tired of The Surreal Life reruns can now make their own lives a little more surreal with Nintendo's new bill-paying, garbage-dumping, bug-collecting, zoological life sim. Nintendo confirmed today that it has shipped Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS to retail.

Wild World, like 2002's life sim Animal Crossing for the GameCube, once again drops gamers into a small town populated by anthropomorphic animals and asks them to make a living and spend their time however they see fit. The DS version of the game retains the open-ended approach of the original, but sports a number of new features and tweaks to the gameplay.

Chief among the new features is the game's Wi-Fi compatibility, which lets players travel around the world to visit each other's towns and chat, trade items, or play games together. The game is also controllable entirely using the DS touch screen, from navigating menus to customizing clothes. Up to four players can also share a house in the same town, though only one can play at any given time.

Animal Crossing: Wild World is rated E for Everyone and retails for $34.99. Check back later today for GameSpot's full review.

    Predicted 8.5.... got an 8.4.

As for Flamer on the second page.... well, that's what happens when 12-year-olds get their dirty little hands on Mommy and Daddy's computer.

Lol, Flame-man judges books by their covers, that's why he misses out on the greatest games, such as Animal Crossing and Katamari Damacy

Well, I sold my soul to the original AC, so this new one will only be able to snare my soul's withered remains.

have any of you PLAYED the game?
isnt a review based on how the game PLAYS?
or am i mistaken, maybe it is about the pretty artwork and what they are adding.
they could add tons of stuff and do it poorly, or excellently. so im predicting something like a 1-10. yeah...something in that range

I'm predicting an 8.5 rating. Better than the GC version, with the online and all, there's a ton of stuff to do, and being portable always helps.

they will give it an 8.5
no NES games and lots of restrictions online make
    me mad...

That's why I didn't try and collect everything, it lasted a good year and a half with me.

  • ryanduvall

    Posted Dec 6, 2005 2:02 pm GMT

I cant wait, i mean the gamecube one was a little weak because of its lack of replayability after you collected everything, but this opens up new possibilities with online.

Either way though, I'm getting it tomorrow.

8.9 seems very high but you never know. I'm guessing 8.4

  • woohooforme

    Posted Dec 6, 2005 1:55 pm GMT

Can't wait for a review, since the first one got an 8.1 (UNDERRATED!!!) I'm guessing they're going to give this one an 8.9...that's just my guess though
