Smash Bros. creator returns for Revolution version

Series founder will direct next-gen edition; Nintendo opens special Tokyo studio to bolster game's development.

According to the latest issue of Japanese game bible Famitsu, Nintendo has opened an office in Tokyo dedicated solely to the ongoing development of the Revolution update in the Super Smash Bros. series. Heading up the new studio is the series' original creator, Masahiro Sakurai. He returns to the Nintendo organization after a two-year absence.

According to Famitsu, Sakurai was persuaded by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata to return to Nintendo over conversations that took place at the E3 Expo held earlier this year.

Preparing a new Super Smash Bros. game with such short notice was not easy for Sakurai, given the game's tight development schedule. In a column written for Famitsu, Sakurai said he hopes to have a team of 50 developers working on the title.

Everyone remember that this IS a nintendo game...
the whole point of this game is to throw all of the nintendo characters into
one big game. so don't expect to play ssb on xbox live. The rev will have something like that though. Also they arent gonna put spiderman or hulk or whatever else people said...

STOP THE MARIO Business, My name is Mario and i am even sick of so many Mario games over and over. Sounds like they found a magic formula in which they paid Einstein 1billion to create and his answer was MARIO. I like my name, but i see it so much in the nintendo world that it threw me off to the xbox and ps2 club.

    Thank you, Nintendo.
Thank you for all the hard work placed into these wonderful games. You will pull this off, make everyone happy, and sony and microsoft will rear their heads up from the dust they arose during their long fight to see you guys leading by example. During all of this, we gamers benefit from wonderful creations from the leaders in the industry.
Please, Nintendo, do well with this controller, make this NWC online system shine as bright as Xbox Live, and (pLeAsE!!!) enable high definition for this new system. 480p, at least. You would make so many people happy. I would easily pay 250 dollars on your system, even 300, and purchase three extra controllers, a few 2 GB sandisk cards, bongos, microphones, cameras, and any other wacky devices just to experience the joy i had when i bought my nintendo 64, my super nintendo, even my gameboy.
The same company who introduced the rumble pak, the analogue joystick, the first savable game(zelda nes), and the lightgun is the same company that concieved the idea of a 3D mouse in the shape of a TV remote. Wow, I gotta hand it to you guys. If this company, Nintendo, had never existed, there would be a lot of people in this world with nothing to do. And slow reflexes. Again: Thank you, Nintendo, for your dedication to what matters most: playing games.

the only thing im worried about is the controller in super smash brothers for the revolution. probally they will create some type of shell to use on the controller to play the comfortably. they should also include a hammer brother as a playable character or even birdo.

    Posted Feb 22, 2006 4:38 pm GMT

That's awesome! It may be the one game making me drop the cash for a crazy cool controller and the Revolution!

I find this news to be great as I myself played SSBM to death with my brother and friend Joe. Also regarding the controller I think that there will be a "shell" (gamecube shaped controller) add on so you can enjoy it the classic way too as well as with the rev controller .

I was exited when I heard about the Revolution and its controller and all the cool stuff about it but now that Super Smash Bros. is going next generation it just got a whole lot better. Also, I don't know what this kevan13 guy is talking about so he thinks the Nintendo Revolution is gay but do you see Sony even trying to do anything new with the PS3... nope its going to be the same old thing but with better graphics. Nintendo on the other hand is doing new things with the Revolution to try to make gaming even better not keep it the same. Oh, and one more thing ,kevan13, you need to learn how to spell its N.I.N.T.E.N.D.O get it right.
