Dungeon Siege film trailer surfaces

Preview of Uwe Boll's two-part epic fantasy tale now online; snippet shows an acrobatic Ray Liotta, regal Matthew Lillard.

When director Uwe Boll has a vision, he goes with it. The German famous for making films based on games, often to the disgust of gamers and cinephiles alike, has taken Gas Powered Games' Dungeon Siege series on a trip to the big screen, the way only Boll can.

A trailer for the flick has popped up on the Internet, courtesy of the Web site (editor's warning--long download) for Fantastic Films International, the film's (or films' rather, see below) distributor. Viewers of the trailer are treated to pieces of "an epic tale" showing star Jason Statham (Snatch, The Transporter) taking on man and beast with swords and fist, Burt Reynolds (Cop and a Half, Boogie Nights) riding horseback as the land's king, and Matthew Lillard (Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College, Scream) screaming and rolling on the floor.

Because Boll believes the movie is "a huge epic adventure," the movie will be split into two approximately 105-minute parts. If spending more than two hundred minutes in a theater is too much for some, Boll will offer the movies bundled together in a DVD set in 2007.

Here's the cruelest of all ironies. If you want Boll to stop making movies you actually need to go out and see his crap-fests in droves; doing so would cause all of his german investors to be forced to pay taxes on their investment, instead of the government giving them a 100% write off on any movie that posts a loss.

Give Mr. Boll credit, he's tapped into one of the all time great money making schemes.

*sigh* I haven't watched the trailer (I refuse to install QT to see it) but I was really hoping that this would be pretty good since it stars Jason Statham.

    Oh well. =|

Wonderful. Just wonderful. Another Uwe Boll film to avoid. What he did to BloodRayne and Alone in the Dark was just unforgettable (in the worst sense). Just search for public reviews on these films in http://www.imdb.com you'll be convinced he's really sh_t. Also, be aware that he's doing FarCry, Postal and Seed -- all in pre-production phases already :-(

the trailer looked like something you'd expect out of some fan film. The movie looks etremely low budget and the monsters look like garbadge.

This guy's first name is soooo appropriate... Uwe. As in all his movie stink... Ewe. I still cannot understand why people give perfectly good IP licenses to this guy. Just flush them down the toliet: you will get a better return on your investment.

looks like the movie industry has run out of ideas, more often we see that movies are based on video games, makes me think that if games become more cinematic they might replace movies altogether

What this man has done to the gaming community is just retarted. First off he thinks any game could be made into a movie. I'm not saying they can't but do them right at least. How can I say this "Do a a real movie first before trying to make a movie based off something".

  • Petri87

since Uwe Boll is making the game you know its a flop.

You can really tell a move is bad when there's no voice over guy in the trailer? Man it was bad, Uwe needsome directing skills, oh and has anyone noticed the writers, they eiter have written files I have never heard of, started writting, or work with Boll. At least he should get better writers, that would make his movies tolerable.

  • exavior17

    Posted Nov 30, 2005 8:10 am PT

That is the best they could do. Who else in there right mind would want to be in a movie by Uwe?

To bad more actors wouldn't stop taking roles just to get money and would all reject any script with Uwe attacted to it in any way. Then his movies would stop being made.

HA-HA. I like the first poster commenting "I hope they dont mess it up", since "messing it up" and "Uwe Boll" are synonymous.

OMG, this is going to set fantasy movies back 25 years. All the hard work done by Peter Jackson to give the fantasy genre some credibility is going to be undone. This is a must-boycott movie.

Just be thankful he's not making a Diablo movie... that would piss a lot more people off.

The trailer is just plain sad...what is he doing to Dungeon Siege?!? The acting also seems very bad in it.

  • FeldmanSkitzoid

    Posted Nov 29, 2005 8:58 pm PT

Well, at least he's getting the movies that are just shameless cash-ins anyway. Every one of the movies he's done has been based on a game that I don't care about at all.

  • Squids-Ahoy

  • jordanroher

    Posted Nov 29, 2005 5:59 pm PT

Nope, crap. Boll sees no problem with calling the main character "Farmer." Really. The trailer is by far the worst piece of fantasy I've ever seen, and that includes the opening movie to Dungeon Siege II, which was very bad but at least creative with its badness. I guess we'll have to wait for Peter Jackson to be done with the Halo movie for game movies to gain even the smallest shred of respectability.
