Kameo konkokts kool kostumes
Winter wear for Xbox 360 game now available on Xbox Live Marketplace; $2.50 slips lady elf and pals into Xmas duds.
The Xbox Live Marketplace is hawking its first download for in-game use today, as the Winter Warrior Pack for Kameo: Elements of Power has been thawed out for purchase. A listing for the Pack was briefly shown in screenshots of the Xbox Live Marketplace a week before the Xbox 360 was released, but Microsoft finally let out some of the details of the download.
The Winter Warrior Pack will run 200 Marketplace points ($2.50), and it is accessible directly through Xbox Live. For their money, gamers get to suit up Kameo and her alter egos in seasonal-themed garb, such as a skimpy Mrs. Claus for the heroine or a red nose a la Rudolph for one of the Elemental Warriors. Gamers interested in adding festive fun to the game will need to have acquired the Wotnot book in the Thorn's Castle level.
Kameo: Elements of Power is rated E for Everyone and retails for $49.99. For more on the non-holiday edition of the game, read GameSpot's review.

The game is rated "T". You can see it on the box cover above. About the Marketplace: it's like the radio or tv, if you don't like it change the channel. nobody's forcing you to buy addional content/mods.

This live marketplace is nothing more than an opportunity for developers to put less content into a game you are already paying $60 for, and then forcing you to pay for "additional" content as they choose to release it. What a joke.

Oh jeezus - let me call up a waaaaambulance to pick up everyone pissing and moaning about the damn download. Did nobody take Economics in high school? Someone before mentioned that it's about SUPPLY and DEMAND. If the DEMAND is high for these things, price will go up. If demand is low (which it sounds like), price will go down. On the flip side, if SUPPLY is low (which it is, since there aren't a whole lot of games to have downloads for), that inflates price as well. As more and more games show up with marketplace extras, not to mention the individual modding community showing up, the price for these microtransactions will go down. Honestly, when did people stop learning about capitalism and just sit there and whine about it??? How do you people dress yourselves in the morning???

Is THIS how consoles are supposed to be 'profitable'? heck, If It meant cheaper games and accessories, and not having to pay for something that was free before(and for many other games still is), I'd pay the US$127 extra for my 360. Just so that they dont try junk like this to recoup costs.

Yeah sounds familiar, oh wait that’s right it’s called a PC. Oh and people make crap like that for games on the PC ALL the time. And get this it's FOR FREE. I for one think that the company’s love this crap. No modders, that means they can charge ridiculous amounts so that MasterChief runs around in a French maid outfit, CRAP! I'm glad to see Nintendo dump Rare if this is the line their following, already corrupted by money hungry Microsoft.
Yes companies are out to make money but they should also remember that if you want to keep loyal fans you need to treat them well and offer these kinds of bonuses for free. Otherwise when Kameo 2 comes out in 2012 people are going to remember the bad taste that was left in their mouth when they wanted to charge $2.50 for costume changes. ONCE AGAIN before some ignorant fool comes along and says that you don't have to buy it, your right I don't and I won't . As a matter of fact **** Rare and **** Microsoft, I'm glad I made $400 bucks selling my 360. However, a company that cares anything about its fan base should provide this kind of content as a Christmas gift if you will. On a side note does anyone know how much money goes to Rare and how much goes to Microsoft for providing the marketplace?

Rare are a business, and by definition exist to make money. They spent time and money on developing this because they think that enough people will be willing to spend $2.50 that they make a profit. If you don't want to spend it, then don't. I probably won't. But I do acknowledge that this small stuff will be released onto the Marketplace first while developers test it out. If it's a success, then they will start developing episodic content for games, like say a new level every couple of months. Now THAT'S exciting, and I'll pay for it. Before long we won't even be buying games on DVD or whatever, we'll just be downloading them from the Marketplace. I strongly suspect that this is the reason that MS has chosen not to use next generation storage media (like BluRay) with the 360 - in a couple of years time it will be irrelevent. This is the 'new era' J Allard is always talkinig about, people.

God, you whiners. If you want it buy it. If you want it and want it to be free then you are screwed.
And for you doofuses who want it to be free, guess what it cost money to make that stuff. So stop being retarded and saying it should be free.

Get used to stuff like this. Whoever said that the developers need to "get with the times and realize that costumes should be free" - you should get with the times yourself and realize that stuff like this will be VERY common-place on the 360. Thats the whole reason why they build the Marketplace.
For people who are saying that you're going to wait until this thing goes down in price - you're joking, right? If you have no interest in alternative costumes then certainly no reason to get this. However, if you really like this, you're going to wait for $2.50 to decrease to something like $1.50? Insane....
Originally I was VERY much against microtransactions. So much so that I considered not getting a 360 at all just because I felt that developers will create small games on purpose and then release extra levels for more $. Still bought the 360 and now I'm not opposed to the idea as much. $2.50 is not much for me... worth checkin' out the costumes.

Kameo sure is cute in that outfit, but $2.50 is a bit more than I'm willing to pay... However, as someone else mentioned, the holiday gear should go out of style and be marked down after Christmas... This should be $1.25 (or maybe even free) in January.
As long as they mark it down when it is no longer applicable, I don't mind them trying to make a buck off the season during the month of December, but if they continue to charge full price for this into next year, well then, they're just crooks because every "real" store marks their holiday goods down 50% on December 26th.

I'd think Rare would be above this. I wouldn't mind so much if you could buy the marketplace points and then these littles things like costume changes and avatars would be 10 each, so it'd only cost a few cents. That way you'd get a lot of avatars and costumes for $2.50, which would be more fair. Just one costume and a Rudolph nose gets dull in a heartbeat. At the same time, it would be even better if this stuff was free and we just paid for new levels and those downloadable games, which is completely reasonable. Hey, in a perfect world we'd have everything for free. I also hope that gamerpoints can get you other stuff for free. Maybe not the same stuff as marketplace points, but something. Having them for show ain't much.

Ok, so not too many people are going to buy it, and then later it will go down in price. Simple. I'm also willing to bet that while the game achievement points probably won't give you free marktplace money (as that would make games "cheaper" but not be very marketable) Marketplace points will almost definitley be parts of prizes for online tournaments.

If you were playing PC games, mods and skins like this would come free. The microtransactions thing is a nice way for MS to scalp.

Ya know when MS first said "MICROtransaction" I had more in mind like $.25-$.50 for something like this. Not $2.50!! I new since the marketplace opened the era of free downloads was going to take a significant blow as publishers would mlk a title for all it's worth. But at these prices, I'm not sure how much interest they'll see.
Like I said though, If it truly was MICRO i'd probably pay it.

Listen, peeps. Here's the gist of this. Games that suck will have crap on the marketplace, they need to bring in more money for lackluster sales. Games that sell well usually will not or they'll have it free because some companies are nice and will make new stuff since they gained a crap load of profit. Now saying that, multiplayer games will sell items because multiplayer online games require monitoring and stat collecting, i.e. Halo 2.
Now, a lot of people will have to go to a money-managing workshop because they will buy everything on that damn marketplace. People, don't get crazy. Buy what you want though.

Please stop complaining. It is the same for anything you can buy, do you tell everyone something is overpriced as soon as you find you don't think it is worth your money? Most people appreciate the fact that capitalism is prevalent, in the US as well as here in Europe. Otherwise you might want higher taxes so the government can release content to games for free. Maybe we should all get an Xbox 360 for free. Or do you think that as soon as it is digital content it should allways be free? We would have no videogames in such a system. Grow up and listen to JBetts.

Except for the part about "ripping us off", I concur.
It's called capitalism. Things are worth what people will pay for them. It's not up to you to decide what another person's time is worth. You just choose to pay for it or not, and he or she is allowed to change what they charge accordingly.
Where you have gone astray is when you have decided to not only make this decision for yourselves, but for all people and the people who took the time to make the content.
If you don't think the game is worth $50, don't buy it. If you don't think Christmas costumes are worth $2.50, don't buy them.
What you want ever so badly is for your one vote to matter more than it does, and it just doesn't.
You are absolutely correct with your final point. If nobody buys it, they won't sell it any more. But they won't sell any more copies of Kameo because it contains christmas costumes, either.
So what they've done is perfect. Make it optional. Maybe make a few extra bucks. God bless America.

JBetts it's not about the choice that we don't have to buy it, it's the fact that this is a blatent case of ripping us off. This type of stuff should be free, if it was a big thing like maps and extra weapons then you could make a case for it. I hope no one buys stuff like this for the marketplace, if we all do that then it will send a strong message to MS.

Regardless of how many costume changes someone unlocked, charging for a costume that adds nothing to the game is EXTREMELY tacky.

I wonder how many of the people who complained about it not being a free unlockable considered the 6 unlockables already included for every score attack level (which include several costume changes).

So, $2.50 to change outfits? Isn't this the kind of thing that developer's generally give out for free? Are they TRYING to make people not want to buy a 360? I know that I'm not going to pay $2.50 for crap like that... and I'm also not going to pay to download a new dinky little avatar for my online profile. They need to get with the times and realise stuff like that should be free. Like a previous commenter said, they released two free, massive updates to Ninja Gaiden for free... who's going to pay for lame cosmetic junk?

$2.5 for such a simple mod? these kinds of things should be a free download, if they had added, say, a complete level or so with new forms, it might have made sense. The problem is, now that they have a model for microtransactions, they intend to make full use of it.
oh, and i love the idea jared espoused, to be able to convert game achievement points into such goodies would be truly great.

yeah i agree with Jared, I think you should be able to use game achievement points for purchases, if not to get them free, to get them for a percent off.
this also seems way to early.

i dont know if i like this. i mean, after i beat ninja gaiden, i was able to get two hurricane packs for free which was cool. new enemies and weapons.
secondly, after playing wipeout pure on my psp, they also released new cars and tracks for free.
i dont like having to pay money for something as stupid as a costume change. not cool.

Well, its not really a pack that will affect gameplay or even add to its lenght. It's really just cosmetic so it's really not too early to have access to alternate gear. I wouldn't put it past Rare to have a Summer Warrior Pack to be downloaded for summer.

Now, if they can do the same in a bigger scale and add a couple more levels to the CoD2 campaign.
