E3 06: Revolution to be unveiled on May 9, 2006

Nintendo will take the wraps off the next-generation console at its press briefing before next year's E3.

During its pre-E3 press conference in May, Nintendo disappointed many by revealing little about the Revolution. Other than showing off a mock-up of the console form factor and announcing the console would play NES, SNES, N64, and GameCube games, the game giant revealed little about the next-generation console. In the months since, it has let a few details about the Revolution trickle out, the most significant being pictures of its much-vaunted controller--which has been much-derided for its resemblance to a TV remote control.

Today, though, gamers got a definite date when Nintendo will absolutely, positively reveal the Revolution in all its glory. The Mario factory sent out a "save the date" e-mail this morning saying that in "a mere 165 days to go (give or take)" it will reveal "all the incredible details about Nintendo's upcoming games and hardware, including our next home console, code-named Revolution."

So when will be the Revolution's coming-out party? Unsurprisingly, it will be at next year's E3. Specifically, the console will be unveiled at Nintendo's pre-E3 press event, which is slated for 9:30 a.m. Pacific time on May 9, 2006. The venue will be the Kodak Theatre--home of the Academy Awards--in Hollywood, California.

huzzah! new more details on "innovative" the only good thing about the revolution is that you can download every game by nintendo, who knows maybe the new secret is you can download Gameboy games too, but still its that controller thats making me not buy a revolution. sorry nintendo but video games are meant to be two handed

DVD is not a useless format....a duel layor DVD can hold 5-10 GB of information, allowing the developers to have more freedom with their games. the restrictions of carts are why the N64 failed....using a optical disc I think is a big mistake because it only allows 1.5 gb of storage, meaning developers wont have as much freedom. Sony will beat nintendo once again

I have to applaud Nintendo for *NOT* falling for the ME-TOO!!! syndrome and adding unnecessary devices to their gaming rigs. I don't need a DVD player in my game console [already have 4 in the house and one in the car]------ I don't need my game console [or DVD player for that matter] to play MP3s [already have two tiny MP3 players and an in-dash MP3 player in another car]-----I don't need my game machine to show movie or picture format files on my tv [I have a digital camera that handily does that already when needed, along with DVD players in the house that also have that capability]. ********Why put this useless stuff in what is supposed to be a GAME machine and then charge me more for it, when I don't even want or need those features in my game machine? And if those features [think PS3] fail, does the whole system go down, even the gaming portion of the console?...............No thanks, I'll always take a dedicated device to do a dedicated task. LESS is MORE. Ninendo, I implore you to continue making GAME machines, not electronic Swiss-Army knives. Leave those individual gadgets to other companies that do those things well. You make consoles and games that are solid, straightforward and always near-perfect, with hardly ever a technical glitch, concern or recall unlike your "competitors". You really know what you're doing and I thank you for that. Keep up the AWESOME work! PS: I have almost every console in existence [minus an XBox], so don't think I'm a fanboy and flame me.

yo its cool, cuz who cares if we hav to wait cuz it is only gonna be 150 bucks so i would wait years if its gonna be at that price(not really). Another thing i am glad nintendo isn't making twilight princess a launch wit the rev cuz that would dissapoint a lot of gamcube owners, but still at $150 you realy cant complain.

    Phaz--

Actually it's not hard to hack..well, for me it is, anyway, N64 emulators/roms are readily available almost anywhere http://www.emuparadise.com

the problem with cartridges is that you cant do as much and it's not cost effective, which killed the N64 eventually.....which also forced NOA to go disc format. as I said before though, even though NOA is a snale when it comes to catching up to technology, they ALWAYS get it right the first time....unlike Sony and the PSX's overheating problems. If they dont catch up though, they will be left behind...not using DVD format is a bad sign

If the controller has gyroscopic capabilities, and you can play a first person shoot with point and shoot, all they would need is a glasses attachment and VOILA, virtual reality!
And for the guy who said Nintendo was lagging behind because they took so long to switch to dvd, they were also the last system to be hacked. It is more difficult to hack a cartridge than a dvd.

this "download a game thing" is gonna have some ups and downs. For one, get all the games you ever wanted! and another good thing is playing old games agian, that propaly broke or got lost. But this is so stupid that we will have to buy are gamecube games again!
    What a rip off!!!

I wish nintendo would go back to there roots of gaming I mean Mario great side scrolling game. I wish they would make the New mario (mario12 like Mario 64. I loved that game and I wish they would stick with that and Mario Kart. I diddnt like one Mario game for the Gamecube they travel too far fom the Mario Story. I like chasing bowser to rescue the princess Toadstool. If they went back to that I would buy a revolution without hesitation. I already have a 360 and i love it, It's awesome and is going to beat the PS3!

on the other hand, I have to say that Nintendo gets it right the first time....for example, It took sony 3 times to get the Playstation right....the first time it had a overheating problem...so, Nintendo can get it right the first time

Looks like Nintendo is goign the way of Sega.....It took them until 2001 or so before realizing that disc media is the way to go and allows you to do more...they is why Sonly kicked their butts with the N64 vs Playstation...and they will get their butts stomped yet again simply because they refuse to adapt...for example, the Rev is not using DVD format...WHY?

in the end, I think Nintendo will evolve or die

I'll be waiting for the PS3 and look forward to watching Nintendo get stomped

I may be kind of pointing out the obvious, but anyone that is being bashed by Sony and/or MS fanboys simply need to point out two things before ending the conversation/thread:
    1. The 360 controller added 3 buttons...3! The layout stayed the same, along with the shape. They didn't even really need to add the 3 buttons! It's a waste of, what, 30-50 bucks?
    2. Although the system will be powerful, the PS3 controller is a frickin' boomerang! As someone in another forum pointed out: if you get mad at the game and throw the controller, at least it will come back to you.

Nintendo pretty much completely revamped the controller. Its functionality, usefullness, and upgradability (made-up word) are vastly superior to those of the other two systems.

the rev looks awesome but i must say im scared for the future of nintendo because they are spending their time with so much innovation that a lot of third party companies wont make game sfor it and that people wont buy it i truly hope thats not the case...

CAN'T WAIT!!!! I'm ready for a change and leave it up to Nintendo to to come out of left field with something totally amazing and irresistable. I hope Nintendo learns from Apple and starts cutting their own path as far as design and usability. GO NINTENDO!

I have to say, I'm not looking forward to the Next-gen nearly as much as I looked forward to the present generation. The PS3 and 360 will continue along the same paths, making tons of crappy games for every quality game, and the Revolution will be so different most people will ignore it. The next-gen will probably suck. I hope that Nintendo keeps making consoles, however, and I'd hang before I saw them going third party like Sega.

    I miss my Dreamcast.
