Dimension added to Dead or Alive film

Genre film distributors gets rights to Corey Yuen's game-based martial arts flick; fall release planned.

While survival horror games, first-person shooters, and action games seem to be all the rage when it comes to subject matter for movies these days, the fighting game might be gaining some ground on those genres. Variety is reporting today that the genre-based arm of Miramax, Dimension Films, has picked up the rights to distribute director Corey Yuen's upcoming film take on Tecmo's Dead or Alive series in North America next fall. Tekken and Mortal Kombat are also scheduled to get new film adaptations next year.

Yuen's resume seems tailor-made for a movie based on a fighting game. His career as a fight choreographer in films has spanned several decades, from old-school martial arts classics like The Instant Kung Fu Man and Drunken Master, to more recent fare like Lethal Weapon 4 and The One, both of which were made with longtime collaborator Jet Li.

The film was shot in China and boasts a number of recognizable faces in its lineup. Devon Aoki (Sin City, Fast and the Furious) will star as Kasumi, with Shane Kosugi (son of '80s ninja film mainstay Sho Kosugi) taking the role of Ninja Gaiden star Ryu Hyabusa. Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl, Joe Dirt) takes the role of wrestling vixen Tina Armstrong, while actual pro wrestler Kevin Nash (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze, the Adam Sandler remake of The Longest Yard) will play her disapproving father, Bass.

The cast is rounded out by Sarah Carter (Final Destination 2, K-9: P.I.), Natassia Malthe (Elektra, K-9: P.I.), Matthew Marsden (Black Hawk Down, Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood Orchid), Eric Roberts (Runaway Train, The Specialist), and Mortal Kombat's own Liu Kang, Robin Shou.

Earlier this month, Variety reported that Dimension Films had signed an agreement with Crystal Sky Pictures to distribute the film based on Konami's Castlevania in North America.

As long as Uwe Boll isn't the director, I think this movie has a chance... but then again, maybe not. I suppose we'll see.

Is it even going to follow the plot of the game? Or are we going to be looking forward to another Street Fighter, The Incrediably Poor Movie?

It'll have a better chance than Doom.

Quote from John Carmack, programmer of Doom:
"Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important."

I don't know what other might have think about this coming movie, but honestly I don't like it... I've seen the trailer... It's not even like the DoA game itself.
I mean character are not even resemble to the fighter profile...
I've seen the actress play as Ayane is a lot older than the actress that play as Kasumi... Isn't Ayane suppose to be younger than Kasumi?
Why do they messed up the good game? It would be nice if it resembles the game... especially the character profile...

and i know none of those DOA chicks
    have C cup sizes bras

I have a bad feeling about this game. From what I've seen, movies based around fights tend to be:
    1. hopelessly lame
    2. not very good at portraying fighting
    3. hopelessly lame

let's just hope that this one is an exception. I'm not holding my breath, though...

Ohhh boy, I just saw the trailer of this movie online. Lets just say that it makes Street Fighter the movie look like a classic award winner.

It should've been a CG movie like Advent Children since the cast doesn't exactly fit the enhanced models that Tecmo has created.

This movie is gonna suck and ill tell u why. Devin Aoki! She's really hot and a great person to play Kasumi except one little detail, shes got the chest of a brick wall and thats not gonna fly for Kasumi. I've seen a pic and i cried tears of sorrow...hopefully there'll be some hellr editing of tricks or something otherwise prepare the waterworks...

You've got to be kidding me
Personally I wouldn't mind a Anime like Battle Arena Toshinden, but a live action film with Devon Aoki?
I say this again, Why make a bad film when you can make a great game.

Let's face it, the fights might be cool, but what about the story. Oh yeah, I forgot, fighting games always have really lame stories. Guess that means we won't be riveted by something dramatically gripping huh?

Let's not forget that Corey Yuen directed the recent film "The Transporter", as well as doing fight choreogaphy for the sequel.

As the DoA games are fighting games, we should get movie based on a video game which focuses completely on one of the primary things that made the game popular the fighting... and maybe we'll have some bouncing boobies too.
