World Poker Tour pairs with stores
$20 ante gets 2K Sports' game o' gambling; multiple poker games now playing on Xbox, PS2, and GBA.
The World Poker Tour has stopped in several locations, including the Aviation Club de France in Paris, the Bellagio hotel and casino in Las Vegas, and Casinos Europa in Costa Rica. But today, the WPT is going somewhere it's never been: the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and Game Boy Advance.
2K Sports, a brand of 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive, dealt World Poker Tour 2K6 to retail today. The casino game is officially licensed by World Poker Tour Enterprises and is based on the television show of the same name. Included in the game are real WPT casinos and commentary from show hosts Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten.
While trying to bluff poker pros for real stakes would leave most wearing a barrel, World Poker Tour 2K6 lets gamers try their hands at virtual representations of pros. Phil "Unabomber" Laak, Erick Lindgren, and others have been included in the game.
Because poker against pixelated players can often be unsatisfying, the Xbox and PS2 versions both offer online support. Gamers can also show poker faces with the PS2's EyeToy camera peripheral.
World Poker Tour is rated E for Everyone and sells for $19.99. For more information, head over to GameSpot's previous coverage.
