Sony to roll out PSP stations
Sony's PlayStation Spot downloadable demo terminals will be coming to your town...if you live in Japan.
TOKYO--Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Spot terminals made a splash with their debut at this year's Tokyo Game Show. The kiosks allow PSP owners to download game demos to their handheld via Wi-Fi connection, and gave people a chance to get their hands on samplings of upcoming titles like Rockman Rockman and Metal Gear Acid 2.
Japanese PSP owners who couldn't make it to TGS should still be able to get their download on soon, as Sony has begun running TV advertisements in Japan announcing that PlayStation Spot terminals will be "coming to your town in the near future." Though specific details haven't been disclosed yet, Sony is planning on setting the terminals at retailers as well as special events.
As an experiment, a PlayStation Spot is currently running at Sony's showroom in Ginza, Tokyo. It will also be available at the Akihabara Entertainment Festival taking place in the city's Akihabara electronics district from October 22 to 30. The festival will offer a chance for the general public to check out the latest trailers for the PlayStation 3.
