Doom 3 Resurrected on Xbox

Though most would shudder at the thought, Activision is betting that gamers just can't get enough of battling demons from the netherworld in a poorly lit subterranean research facility on Mars. A port of the PC game Doom 3 hit Xboxes April 3, but Hell hath not frozen over, and demons are once again running rampant in said facility in Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, which is now available in retail for the Xbox.

The game was developed by Nerve Software, which also worked on moving another popular id Software franchise, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, to Microsoft's black box. Resurrection of Evil is familiar territory for Nerve, as it developed the PC version that shipped in April.

Two years after the demons of Doom 3 were put to rest, gamers will uncover a powerful artifact that belongs to Dr. Bertrugar and his devilish minions. As the plot will show, the rules "finders keepers" do not apply in Hades, and the artifact's previous owners will stop at nothing to get it back.

Nerve has added new multiplayer maps for online and split-screen action, as well as Xbox renditions of Doom II and Master Levels for Doom II.

The Doom franchise is also headed to the big screen later this month in Universal Pictures' Doom, starring Karl Urban and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The movie's Web site has relaunched with a new trailer, information, and downloads. Though most of the features are still under construction, visitors to the site can check out stills from the film or download wallpapers.
