Koei shooting for new Warship Gunner
New maritime combat game based on Japanese novel is due out this summer.
TOKYO--Koei announced today that it is developing a new naval combat game, entitled Boukoku no Aegis 2035: Warship Gunner. The title roughly translates into English as "The Aegis of the Ruined Nation 2035: Warship Gunner." It's slated for release on the PlayStation 2 in Japan this summer and will cost 5,040 yen ($47).
The game is based on 1999's Boukoku no Aegis, a Japanese novel written by Harutoshi Fukui. This PlayStation 2 action game will take place 30 years ahead of the events portrayed in the novel. The game follows the story of Japanese Aegis warship crews as they protect their country against missile attacks from an organization that's impeding a new international federation.
Boukoku no Aegis 2035 carries the same subtitle as Koei's Naval Ops: Warship Gunner for the PS2, suggesting the two titles may play similarly. This summer, a movie based on the novel will be hitting Japanese theaters, and Koei hopes to launch this new Warship Gunner to take advantage of the movie's release. Gamers interested in Boukoku no Aegis 2035 can check out the teaser site, which just opened today.
