GoldenEye official for DS
EA announces James Bond-flavored GoldenEye: Rogue Agent for Nintendo's handheld; FPS eyeing June release.
There's lots of Bond, James Bond, in the news lately. Not only was little-known Lara Croft: Tomb Raider actor Daniel Craig reported to be the new British superspy (his role hasn't yet been confirmed), but elder Scotsman Sean Connery announced that he will lend his voice and 1960s-era likeness to Electronic Arts' forthcoming From Russia With Love, based on the 1963 movie of the same name.
Now EA has announced the final third of the Bond-news trifecta--GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is officially in development at EA Tiburon for the DS. While the news may be old to some--EA has thrown the game's title around in some DS lineup releases--today's announcement is the first official notice of the game's impending June release.
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent was released on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube last year. Like the console editions, Rogue Agent puts a dark twist on the James Bond games. The main character, an unnamed double-0 agent, is ousted from the British Secret Service for recklessness and recruited by Auric Goldfinger and molded into a ruthless supervillain.
The DS version will sport a heads-up display on the touch screen, and will be the interface for hacking computers, picking locks, and other spy-tacular actions. There will also be an exclusive virtual training mode, pitting players against legendary Bond villains, such as Dr. No and Oddjob, to get weapon upgrades.
The single-player campaign has six missions, and sees the gamer battling for status amid the underworld's elite. There will also be a multiplayer mode for up to eight players, who can frag each other wirelessly with only one copy of the game necessary.
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is rated "T" for Teen and will sell for $29.99. For more information on the game, head over to GameSpot's previous coverage, or read a review of the console version.
