Connery confirms From Russia With Love role
Legendary actor tells the Hollywood Reporter he's "looking forward" to his first game.
An article in the Hollywood Reporter confirmed what many in the game industry already suspected. Sean Connery is returning to the role he helped make an institution on film: British superspy James Bond. Following 1971's Diamonds Are Forever, the Scottish actor hung up his PPK, swearing never to return to the role. However, he did just that in 1983 in Never Say Never Again, one of the few "unofficial" James Bond films not made by MGM.
Now, Connery is bringing his brand of Bond to a whole new medium: games. The Reporter quotes the Oscar-winning actor as saying he has been lending his voice talent to From Russia With Love, the next James Bond game from Electronic Arts. Based on the 1963 movie of the same name, the game will also feature the likeness of the then-33-year-old actor, who is currently 74. It will also feature the 1963-era likenesses of his Love costars, including the late Robert Shaw, who played villain Donald "Red" Grant, and the late Desmond Llewelyn, who played gadget master Q through most of the spy-film series.
Far from showing the disdain for games held by many people of his generation, the septuagenarian Connery told the Reporter he was enthusiastic about the project. "As an artist, I see this as another way to explore the creative process," he told the trade. "Video games are an extremely popular form of entertainment today, and I am looking forward to seeing how it all fits together."
GameSpot will have more details on From Russia With Love soon.
