Warhammer Online lives as Climax goes it alone

Even after publisher Games Workshop flew the coop, the developer never stopped working on the MMORPG.

Climax representatives today confirmed to GameSpot that reports of Warhammer Online's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

In late June, Games Workshop's Robin Dews said that "a full review of the progress of the game, [as well as] costs to date and future costs of the project" prompted canceling continued development. At that time it was suggested by both developer Climax and publisher Games Workshop that the game was dead on the vine.

However, according to a representative contacted by GameSpot, Climax "never stopped working on" Warhammer Online. The rep said Climax is self-funding development while it shops the game to publishers.

In addition, Climax has "a ton of [other] games" in development, including those already signed by Sony and THQ. The Brit-based company opened a Los Angeles studio in early 2003.
