Rebellion inks deal with DC Comics

Rebellion announced that it has agreed to a North American distribution and publishing rights deal for comic book material from both 2000 AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine. The agreement will see the Rebellion-owned sci-fi and fantasy publications going on sale in North American specialty comic stores and mainstream retail bookstores--raising the profile of key characters ahead of their scheduled appearances in games.

"We are in a unique position in the industry, as we own the intellectual properties of over 700 characters and storylines, all of which are the very best of British sci-fi and fantasy," said Jason Kingsley, CEO and creative director of Rebellion. "Our agreement with DC Comics helps to raise the awareness of the characters in line with our future game production. For the first time, customers will be fully informed of the excitement, engagement, and personality of the 2000 AD characters, giving us better cut-through at a retail level and providing greater motivation to purchase the game."

"Both markets, games, and comics, have a very strong overlap, and we want to take advantage of that," continued Kingsley. "We're currently working on Rogue Trooper, and we will be publishing a series of graphic novels and new storylines leading up to the game release."

Rebellion's most recent 2000 AD-inspired game was Judge Dredd: Dredd Versus Death, which arrived in European stores in October and is scheduled for release in North America later this year.
