THQ today announced that it has entered into a "definitive agreement" to acquire Vancouver-based Relic Entertainment. THQ had previously partnered with the developer through a two-property, multiyear publishing agreement that included Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, which is scheduled for release this fall.

"The Relic acquisition underscores THQ's strategy to acquire development studios with a proven ability to create the highest quality products," said Jack Sorensen, executive vice president of worldwide studios, THQ. "We are confident that Relic's extremely talented teams of designers, programmers, and artists will solidify THQ's position as a leading publisher of PC and console entertainment."

"Relic's single greatest achievement, through the years, is the amazing talent we have assembled from all corners of the globe," added Alex Garden, CEO, Relic Entertainment. "These teams will now be a part of one of the industry's top publishers, whose support will enable even greater opportunities for future success."

Further information on the all-cash transaction, which is expected to be completed by May 1, has not been disclosed at this time.
