EA Sports announces arcade basketball title's release date and price point; online mode pared down at launch.
EA Sports has finally announced an official price point and release date for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of NBA Jam. However, those with a proclivity for online play might not be thrilled.
The arcade basketball title will drive the lane for high-definition consoles on November 17 at the same $50 price point as the Wii version. The game was originally set to be included exclusively with copies of NBA Elite before that game was indefinitely postponed in late September.
When the game ships, players will be able to take part in the game's Remix Tour and Classic Campaign but will have only limited access to the game's online multiplayer component.
According to EA Sports, players choosing to take their skills online will have only one avenue in which to do so on launch day. Players can jump into the classic two-vs.-two online mode on day one but will have to wait until December for a content update that will bring a host of new features.
Those with connected consoles who download the free title update, due out at an unspecified date in December, will score Remix Games. These games include Backboard Smash, Domination Free-for-All, Elimination, and 21, and they are playable both online and off.
Also due out with the content update will be Jam Party, an online mode where players can invite up to three others to play. Finally, with the December update players will be able to take their skills to the next level in Online Progression. This mode lets players build and level their character through a series of online challenges.
they gotta recoup the money they are losing by not having nba elite on the market. this still wont cover what they will lose by not have elite out. with that said...theres NO way id pay more than $15 for this game. especially since i have it on my genesis AND my snes.but i understand why they're doing it even though i dont like it.
OXM gave this game pretty solid reviews, plus my favorite game as a kid was NBA Jam T.E so its a no brainer that im getting this. Probably wait a little and get it used for a reduced price tho.

Hmmmm. I have it for the Wii. Yet, I'm not entirely mad at this article because I would figure that the 360 and PS3 ppl would rather choose NBA Elite or 2k11 over Jam (especially after looking at the prices and features). But I wished we could an online feature to not make the Wii guys feel bad...crap. It was the decisions of the EA.
Haha $50. Where I live, the Wii version is only $40 and no one is willing to pay that much for it. I doubt online and a few extra modes will make it worth the extra $10 for the HD Jam.
Now i'm wishing they would have giving us that NBA Elite game for $10 more. It must have been really, really crappy for em to scrap it at the last minute like that, price for NBA Jam now seems excessive considering they teased giving it to us with NBA Elite.
$50 seems a little much considering that it is almost a direct port of the Wii version. I would have liked a download that was around $20 with less features.
I'm getting NBA Jam it's worth $50 dollars so all that say that it isn't worth $50 dollars your wrong because it's worth it. Nissanmaxima 2K5 sucked one of the wrost football games ever and that is a fact Madden & Techmo Bowl are the best football games and that is a fact. So your wrong Nissanmaxima Madden is the best and is a real football game unlike 2K5 which wasn't a real football Madden is the best year in and year out and it is never the same game either it's new every year and worth the price.
@namdar Sorry, but online play doesn't matter that much to me. I've got friends right next to me that I can play multiplayer with.
The extra modes do make it sound like a full game but $50 seems a little extreme. I'd expect $40 max honestly.
@ToTs_00 I know enough that Wii version was going to be a "full" game and there was supposed to be a stripped down version of this game that was going to be tacked on with NBA Elits, which was supposed to come out the same day as 2k11 but was pushed back indefinitely without prior notice to any media outlets..... I know Super Meat Boy even EXIST yet I was surprised when I saw NBA Jam in a store for sale and according to the Nov issued of Game Informer's review, it was released on Oct 5th. I'd love to play this game.... on an HD system that is (F the Wii)... but for THE most notable NBA game ever to just sort of be out there with very little anything in terms of getting it's name out there is somewhat upsetting. To put it in perspective, I don't play any sport games but I once owned NBA JAM Extreme for PSX and the Acclaim release of NBA Jam in like 2004 for the PS2. I love this franchise but for EA to have a full version just on the Wii and some stripped down version that was supposed to be tacked on to another game just doesn't seem like they're treating this game right. How the hell could you put this game out with no online support on a system in which 3rd party games are pretty much a non issue. For $50 at that. Why weren't they thinking $15 downloadable game for PSN/XBL where they can probably sell tons of dlc and have a infinite longer lifespan than selling it on the Wii. Just seems like they dropped the ball with what NBA Jam is all about.
even though there selling this seperate i still want this 2 be added in with elite why buy 2 when you can get both at 1 cost
$50 bucks for this game... I think not. I will just wait for either the price to drop or just wait for it to be available used at Gamestop. Till then I will just play the old school NBA Jam and NBA Hang Time on my Super NES.
Wait a sec, it was going to be free with the purchase of a $60 game, but now this free game is $50???
How does everybody know this isn't worth $50? If its a full game why should it be full price?

Sure i bought this game before back in the day and because i no longer have it any more i will be getting it again. The price tag is nothing because i'll have this game for years to come. BOOMSHOCKALOCKA
I really thought this should have a been an XBL/PSN downloadable title, I'm not gonna bother paying full retail price on this. Though I will patiently wait until it's $20 or less, then get it, I won't completely ignore it.
i like how it's not worth 50 bucks now that people know the game was suposed to ship with another one. To me,it looks like a solid title and one that people feel nostalgic about, so in my opinion, it's a fair price point
@exedeath I'm sure you've noticed but in the last decade game content has come a long way. I still have NBA Jam on the snes and its woefully lacking in terms of long term replayability outside of having a once in a while romp with your friends in a 1v1. SSFII HD also lacks in the content department. Outside of straight fighting there isn't a whole lot the game offers. Heck i would say Soul Caliber 4 wasn't even worthy of its 60$ offering with what little it offered outside of core gameplay. Especially compared to SC2 and SC3... Games of the past got by with less because people didn't expect more. Things have changed and that stuff isnt worth its original price.
As long as they allow me to actually turn off my 360 whilst I unlike Mitch Richmond and unlimited turbo, I may, MAY shell out another 50 bones for this. I agree, this is asinine that I even have to. But, what can I say? I've already put in well over 30 hours on the Wii version, so it must be doing something right.
They should have waited until Dec when everything was ready and released it as a XBL or PSN download. Game should have been no more then $20 as DLC or $29.99 as a retail game. I'm not paying $50 for this game, that's for sure. I'll get it on EBay once the price drops to under $30. The game was going to be FREE in NBA Elite 11, so EA expects us to shell out $50 for it. Are they nuts? "free update" and EA Sports doesn't go together. $50 for a game that was going to be free?? I'll pass on this. I was excited about this game as I loved playing the previous versions all those years ago. I would have expected to see this as a online purchase for $30 at the most. I guess EA have been smart and have already included the price of the "Free update" in the initial price point
@emceelokey People didn't know it was out? I hope you know that not only the gaming community was waiting for the return of NBA Jam but even sports community was. I think people like you really don't understand how big of a arcade hit NBA Jam was back in the early 90's.
